Connect: Year 6

Getting ready for Camp?

It's an exciting time for our Grade 6 group as they prepare for camp.  Please make sure that you check the packing list to ensure your child has everything required.

Key Dates

WARATAH BEACH CAMP - Wednesday 17th May- Friday 19th May

The Next Fortnight of Learning

Mathematics

Over the next two weeks, we will be continuing our exploration of  fractions. We have looked at how to calculate perimeter and area and we will be beginning an open-ended task that will extend students' understanding and skills in these areas.

Literacy

In reading, we will be studying inferencing- (reading between the lines)-which is a very important comprehension skill.  If my teeth are chattering and the icy rain is dripping down my back...... that's right; I'm freezing cold!  You inferred that.  Well done!

With our writing we will be creating recounts. Students will be looking at how to structure them and what is the best way to make them interesting.  With us going on camp next week, there is no better time for this.

Inquiry

This term our inquiry unit is called, Museums in Motion. We will begin our term unit looking at how European Settlement has influenced and dramatically changed so many aspects of our ancient land.  We have looked at historical events that have happened in the last 250 years and are in the process of creating a time line as a grade six cohort.

Wellbeing

Our Term 2 topic for Resilience Rights and Respectful Relationships, is Help Seeking. During this unit, students will learn to identify communication skills that enhance peer support and help-seeking. They will participate in activities to identify situations and types of problems they can solve independently and those where they can benefit from seeking help from others such as friends or adults and identify a list of trusted people to seek out.

House Cross Country!

Congratulations to all of the participants and a big thank you to Mr. Salter for organising this wonderful event.  The Grade 6 Boys and Girls races both saw a fascinating tussle between Ryan Smith and Ashton Nightingale and Scarlett Smith and Olivia Anstiss who finished 1st and 2nd with only a couple of seconds between them.

Reminders

We are looking for parent volunteers who are interested in participating in a Parent Graduation Committee.  Please email us if you are interesting in helping make this event the most memorable day in the children's Primary School years.
