Premier's Reading Challenge - Wild About Reading
2023 Premier's Reading Challenge is now open. The Challenge encourages children and students to read a set number of books over the year and record their efforts online. Since the Challenge first began in 2005, more than 4 million students have read over 57 million books.
Children have from now until 8 September to read the required number of books when the Premiers' Reading Challenge ends and the Challenge application closes.
Number of books you need to read
Prep to Year 2
- Number of books: 30
- Number of books from the Challenge book list: 20 or more
Year 3 to Year 6
- Number of books: 15
- Number of books from the Challenge book list: 10 or more
The rules for the Premier's Reading Challenge can be found at https://www.vic.gov.au/premiers-reading-challenge-rules#for-school-students
Children can read books by themselves or with someone else. For example, a parent or guardian, carer, brother or sister, buddy or friend. This support is important if the child is just learning to read.
Book lists can be found at https://www.vic.gov.au/premiers-reading-challenge-book-lists
We have many of the books in our library and most public libraries have the books identified as part of the challenge.
If you wish your child to participate in the challenge please email me at lboyhan@sbedesbn.catholic.edu.au by the end of next week and I will register them. Once registered you will receive your child's username and password. You will need to enter their reading and the school then verifies this.
At the end of the challenge students who read the required number of texts receive a certificate signed by the Premier.
Year 6 secondary school forms
All Year Six students are required to send back their Secondary School nomination forms next week. Please send this form back even if you are going to a private school. All forms must be returned so that we can submit these at the end of next week.
