Pastoral Care

Welcome back to our existing families and a special welcome to our new families.
My role as Pastoral Care Worker is to provide additional support to the teaching staff and assist in enhancing the social, emotional and wellbeing of our students. I am a qualified Youth Worker not a member of the teaching staff so it is acceptable for the students to refer to me as “Sue”; rather than a more formal title. I try to spend as much time as possible in the playground or conducting activities promoting socialisation at lunch time which are open to all students so that they may strengthen their peer relationships and increase their sense of belonging here at school. I work Monday to Thursday and can be contacted via the front office.
Part of my duties also includes working with our Community Action Team; which is a school chapter of St Vincent de Paul. The student group is made up of volunteers who work to reduce the impact of financial hardship and assist those within our community who are less fortunate. Each term we conduct a variety of activities and regularly volunteer to cook for CAREVAN, pack meals for Meals on Wheels and promote activities which highlight issues of social injustice or inequity.
The group is led by Year 10 students however our volunteers are from all year groups. Meetings are held regularly at lunchtime and it is during these meetings that the students follow the guidelines of SEE, THINK & DO to identify our goal for each term. We welcome new members and will be holding an information session in the near future. Details will be included in morning notices and during the next few weeks, I will visit our year 7 homerooms as well as catch up with new students to introduce myself and let them know about some more details regarding our C.A.T.
We also have a facebook page, so you are welcome to join us and please don’t hesitate to suggest any ideas or activities we may pursue in the future.
During 2017 we worked extremely hard to establish a quality clothing pool of uniforms etc which I distribute as per need. The support has been overwhelming and I thank those who have donated for their kindness and generosity. If your child requires assistance or access to the clothing, please do not hesitate to contact me directly or leave a message with the front office. It is there to be shared amongst our MCC community.
I hope that everyone has enjoyed the cooler weather and it will make the transition to returning to school somewhat easier. I look forward to working with you and your child during 2018 and I am excited about the challenges the year may bring.
