Year 7 News

The jump from Primary School to High School can often be quite a daunting prospect for students. Students go from being the oldest and biggest at Primary school to being the smallest and youngest faces at High School. Our Year 7 of 2018 have taken the transition in their stride and I am very pleased to report that the students are settling in well and finding their way around the school. I would like to commend them on their punctuality, uniform and behaviour in class this week.  I would also like to thanks the Homeroom teachers – Mr Mason, Ms Olsen, Miss Polimeni, Mrs Blanco, Mrs Calabro and Mr Seers -  for their concern and care for your children.

The first week of Year 7 has flown by in a flurry of activity. So far, students have attended: 12 classes, 2 Homerooms, 1 Year Meeting, 1 House Meeting, 1 Student briefing and 1 Special Assembly – PHEW!  Next week continues to be just as hectic with the following activities and opportunities:

Next Monday and Tuesday, (during the school day) students will attend an information session on the correct and appropriate use of their Chromebooks and other technologies at school. During this time they will log onto their devices in order to ensure they are in working order.

At 7pm on Wednesday 7th of February in the Hall there is the Year 7 Parent Welcome Evening and Chromebook collection. This is a fantastic opportunity for parents, carers and teachers to ‘put faces to names’ and have a quick chat with each other. It also allows the students to collect their Chromebooks to be ready for use on Thursday morning.

On Friday 9th of February is the Swimming Carnival. Students are to make their own way to and from the Griffith Regional Aquatic and Leisure Centre, or to book a place on the bus from school. The carnival is a school day so attendance is compulsory and students are encouraged to participate to the best of their ability and talent.

On Sunday 11th of February is the first Marian Catholic College Youth Mass for the year. These masses are run by the students and it would be lovely to see as many Year 7’s and families there at 9am at the MCC Chapel.

Finally, if you have any concerns or questions about your child, please feel free to contact me. As Pastoral Co

ordinator my job is to ensure that your child feels safe and happy during their time at Marian Catholic College.
