Principal News

As it is, God has put all the separate parts into the body as he chose. If they were all the same part, how could it be a body? As it is, the parts are many but the body is one. The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” and nor can the head say to the feet, “I have no need of you.” What is more, it is precisely the parts of the body that seem to be the weakest which are the indispensable ones.”
1 Corinthians 12:18-23– A letter of St Paul to the Corinthians
Together we will clearly achieve more. We need each other, let us encourage each other to be the best we can...and as one group. As we begin the school year let us continue to remember the words of St Paul.
Dear Parents, Students and Friends
Welcome to the 2018 school year. I trust that the break has rejuvenated and energised you, hopeful for a blessed year. I pray that the Lord will continue to bless our school and all those who contribute to fulfilling God’s promise of “The Way, The Truth and The Life.”

Next Week Year 7 Welcome Evening takes place on Wednesday 7 February at 7pm in the Marcellin Hall. Teachers will be introduced to parents and students will be receiving their chromebook computers. 2017 HSC High Achievers
The 2017 HSC results were once again strong. Our HSC results demonstrate that our College provides an excellent education for our students. Congratulations to our Dux Elizabeth Portolesi and to all our 2017 Year 12 HSC students. Mr Will Lyon was invited to speak on behalf of the staff about Liz’s dedication to her studies. Celebration of the achievements of our highest ranking students was held at the HSC High Achiever’s and Dux Ceremony, 9.30am Friday 2nd February in the Marcellin Hall.
College Car Park and Drop-Off/Pick Up area
All drop/off and parking is either through the Macarthur St entrance or along Hickey Crescent. Wakaden St, in front of the school, is not a pick/up drop/off point due to the inherent danger of crossing the road. No staff supervision will be allocated for this dangerous practice. Parents are asked to be mindful of this. It has the support of the NSW Police and Griffith City Council. The Council have asked parents not to block Macarthur St by queueing outside the College car park. As there is only limited space within our grounds, I ask that you delay your pick up until 3:30 or beyond. This minor wait time for students (the school day doesn’t finish until 3:25pm) alleviates the traffic congestion and parent/driver frustration outside the school.
I thank you for your cooperation with this request.
2018 Staff News
This year we commence with a very settled teaching group with no additional teachers commencing the year. The full list of staff is attached in this newsletter, along with those in positions of responsibility. This may be useful if you need to contact the school.
The following staff are welcomed into our community.
Teacher Assistants: Giorgia De Paoli, Erin Golden and Cathy Quarisa
Mr Heath Neville is now the Director of Mission. This new leadership position will focus on assisting the Principal in ensuring that our College Mission Statement is a living expression of what we are at Marian and who we are becoming in a faith community. Congratulations Heath.
Ms Lisa Davis is the Year 7 Pastoral Coordinator. Lisa has filled the role of an Acting Pastoral Coordinator a number of times and will be a good leader of this group. Congratulations Lisa.
I would also like to inform the community that Mrs Joanne Benton will be leaving us mid February, we wish her well in her new position at St John Paul College, Coffs Harbour. Mrs Benten’s replacement VET (Vocational Education) Coordinator for 2018 will be Mrs Lucia Dickie and we wish her well in her appointment.
Skool Bag App
I mentioned last year that we now have the phone app Skoolbag. Accessing information to this valuable resource is included in this newsletter. Besides our College website and Facebook page it is a important method of communication that is “up to date” with school news. I thoroughly endorse you taking a look at it!
Another important source of College information is the website http://mccww.catholic.edu.au Our website has the term calendar plus a drop down menu to many links that contain material about the College. Please take a little time to browse it.
Peace and Best Wishes
