On Thursday 13 June , the band students of McCarthy competed in the Tamworth Eistteddfod. 35 students played in a number of ensembles, performing a variety of styles. The students all performed well and we had some great results. In the small ensemble section, the McCarthy Saxophone Ensemble placed 2nd with 88 points and the McCarthy Brass Ensemble placed 3rd with 81 points. In the Stage band category, McCarthy's Jazz Band placed first with 92 points against St. Mary's Gunnedah. They performed Basin Street Blues and Play That Funky Music, and were commended by the adjudicator for their great articulation and stage presence. The McCarthy Concert Band performed Waltz No 2 by Shostakovich and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The concert band competed in the largest section of the day and took out 2nd place.

Congratulations to all of the students for their hard work and commitment in preparing for the Eisteddfod. Thank you also to the parents who came along to support the bands, it was wonderful to have you there.
