BOOK DISPLAYS
Our College Library has some new displays of books. A lot of people love binge-reading a series and can’t wait for the next book to be released. One display features many of the popular series available including:
-the Ellie Chronicles
-Alex Rider
-Artemis Fowl
-Percy Jackson
-Gone
Another display reminds us that magical things can happen when we read a book. We are transported to another place or time. We get to experience:
Adventures
Romance
The future in sci-fi and dystopian worlds
See life from another person’s perspective in autobiographies
The serious and the funny side of life
10 Reasons Why the Internet is No Substitute for a Library
This is well worth reading. The non-fiction books in our library have been selected to support the syllabuses and subjects taught at McCarthy. They are specifically targeted at certain year levels, such as juniorbooks on Medieval Europe and a senior biology books on Cells.
The College has quite stringent quality control processes in what the College Library purchases and what appears in the Oliver library catalogue. Those resources, have been carefully selected to support students and their learning, whereas, the internet has no filters or quality control as to the accuracy of the information it provides.
DEVICE FREE DAYS
Device-free Days are coming to the McCarthy Library. Starting Term 3, one lunch per week students in the main area of the library will not be able to use any electronic device (including computers, Chromebooks and mobile phones). The Library will be providing games, a lego challenge, colouring-in mindfulness activities and books to read. Students who need to complete homework or assessment tasks will be able to do so in the Senior Study area.
