Science
The prep students have been exploring materials around the school and have used their iPads to capture images of these materials such as the plastic slide, the metal gate and a glass window. They will be learning how to identify and sort materials and test which materials are waterproof.
The grade 1/2’s began their chemistry unit by mixing different ingredients together. They are studying whether different materials can mix and what they create. Smelly, sticky and gooey were our words of the week!
The grade 3/4 students started chemistry with a bang. The coke and salt experiment resulted in explosions, bubbles and lots of surprised faces. The students will be exploring how materials can change with the introduction of heat.
The grade 5/6’s have been learning about solids, liquids and gases. They tested mystery liquids on a mystery powder to observe the reaction and they grew crystals using epsom salts. The students are looking forward to more messy investigations.
Truganina South Primary School was awarded its 5th and final star from ResourceSmart, a sustainability program we have been involved with for four years now. We have also been nominated as finalists in the ResourceSmart Schools awards for two categories – Student Action Team of the Year (our awesome Green Team) and Teacher of the Year (our Science teacher Vanessa Smith). Winners will be announced at an event at the MCG in June with the ABC’s host of War On Waste, Craig Reucassel.
