HM's message

Just like a child, I still have favourite colours. Mine are oranges and browns and maybe a bit of red and yellow thrown in. A member of staff has dubbed this my “forever autumn” obsession. But we are, of course, now at the tail end of autumn, and it is clearly not lasting forever as we rapidly head into winter.

As the temperatures drop and the final browns and yellows fall from the trees the students are increasingly surprised to still see us standing outside the blue doors of the school every morning, challenging latecomers. However, we try to be mindful that many of them have to travel long distances to school and have to get up in increasingly bleak and dark mornings. We understand that and appreciate that so many families think the long trek to Vysočany is a daily routine worth undertaking in coming to a school which I think is quite unique.

The public transport systems in the Czech Republic are outstanding (take it from someone who has seen much, much worse) and they are largely impervious to sub-zero temperatures. Traffic, however, is another matter, I think Prague is perhaps witnessing its last days of transport innocence, where journey times are still quoted to the nearest minute. More villages, more commercial developments, more houses are springing up and the traffic is becoming increasingly challenging. However, many students still seem genuinely surprised by being late due to traffic and they still seem innocent of any responsibility that they have in this.

School is training for life and work and we constantly encourage students to plan for these increasingly predictable delays - better to hear it from us than from a future employer who has finally decided that to be 10 minutes late is simply not acceptable. The loss of innocence is a recurrent theme in stories of childhood, but it needn’t be feared or mourned. The loss of innocence in the right setting is associated with the rise of maturity, confidence and an increasingly influential presence, something which I hope you see more and more in your son or daughter’s interactions in the world. Many of them have chosen to help us tell their story to prospective parents and students at our Open Day on Wednesday, 22 November. And if you would like to pass on your story to other parents who are considering the same educational journey your child has already embarked upon, we will be delighted to welcome them at our Open Day.

Slovo ředitele

Stále mám své oblíbené barvy, stejně jako když jsem byl malý. Jsou to oranžová a hnědá, možná s příměsí červené a žluté. Jeden z kolegů to nazval posedlostí "věčným podzimem". Podzim se však chýlí ke konci a rozhodně nebude trvalý, jelikož už se blíží zima.

S klesající teplotou a posledními hnědými a žlutými listy, které opadávají ze stromů, jsou studenti překvapeni, že nás ráno stále vidí stát venku před modrými dveřmi školy a kontrolovat pozdní příchody. Snažíme se mít na paměti, že mnoho studentů musí do školy dojíždět zdaleka a  vstávat ještě za tmy. Chápeme to a ceníme si rodin, které si myslí, že každodenní delší cesta k nám do Vysočan za to stojí, díky jedinečnosti naší školy. 

Systém veřejné dopravy je v České republice vynikající (z pohledu někoho, kdo viděl mnohem, mnohem horší) a je do značné míry immuní vůči teplotám pod nulou. Co se týče dopravy, domnívám se, že v Praze není dlouhodobě udržitelné, aby jízdní řády fungovaly naprosto spolehlivě na vteřinu. Přibývají nové čtvrti, komerční prostory a dopravní obsluha je stále náročnější. Zdá se, že mnoho studentů je skutečně překvapeno, když přijdou pozdě kvůli  dopravním komplikacím a stále se tváří, že za to nenesou odpovědnost.

Škola je takovým školením pro život a práci, a proto neustále povzbuzujeme studenty, aby tato stále předvídatelnější zpoždění zahrnuli do svého ranního plánu - je lepší, aby to slyšeli teď od nás než od budoucího zaměstnavatele, pro kterého příchod o 10 minut později prostě nebude přijatelný. Ztráta nevinnosti je opakujícím se motivem příběhů z dětství, ale nemusíme se jí bát. Ve správném nastavení je ztráta nevinnosti spojena s nástupem zralosti, sebedůvěry a vlivnějšího působení; což doufám stále více spatřujete ve svých dětech a v jejich interakci se světem. Mnozí z nich se rozhodli, že nám pomohou vyprávět svůj příběh potenciálním rodičům a studentům na Dni otevřených dveří dne 22.11.2017. Pokud byste i Vy chtěli předat svůj příběh dalším rodičům, kteří zvažují stejnou cestu ke vzdělání, na kterou se Vaše děti již vydaly, s potěšením je na našem Dni otevřených dveří přivítáme.
