ACC 'A' Division Swimming Carnival 2019

So close…just 22 points

A magnificent team effort saw John XXIII College perform brilliantly at the ACC 'A' division carnival at HBF Stadium on Wednesday 27 March. For the last few years John XXIII College has finished second overall to Sacred Heart College. A great effort, but in truth we have been a fair distance back in second place. Once again in 2019 John XXIII finished second, however,  just 22 points behind. A small margin when the overall team totals were over 1200 points.

Throughout the day the overall total swung back and forth between John XXIII College and Sacred Heart College, with a little luck the result could have easily been very different. The commitment from students on the day was wonderful to witness. They showed character and superb team spirit throughout the day. Reserves stepped up and swam at short notice. Students supported our swimmers with vigour in every race. We had outstanding performances in every male and female division. The College did not finish outside the top three in junior, senior and overall classifications. With the senior boys taking the shield in their division.

As I say every year, it is always difficult to single out individual students in a team of over 100 students. However, we did have some excellent individual performance that cannot be overlooked:

  • Charles Hodge 1st overall male u/14
  • Lily Johnston 3rd overall female u/15
  • Jacob Bell 3rd overall male u/16
  • Madeleine Parchewsky 4th overall female u/16
  • Hamish Ryan 3rd overall male u/17
  • Jacob Bell 1st overall male open

Finally, thanks must also go to the numerous people involved with College swimming in 2019, our Alumni coaches, Sian Munks and Laura Gillman, who trained those that attended training to perform at an impressive level on race day. To our staff that assisted with morning training, Ms Bosnich, Ms Peters and Ms Hurley. Ms Pillera and Mr Tremayne for their encouragement and organisation on carnival day. To parents and families for their support with training and communication regarding the carnival.

Congratulations again to all involved in the team. The result was great reward for the efforts of all. Bring on 2020!
