Around The Primary

Dear Parents

Our next Assembly is on Wednesday 3 April at 9am and is being prepared by 2G. We hope many parents will be able to join us on the day as we will be farewelling Mr Alderman. Mr Alderman is retiring after 23 years of dedicated service to the College.

Holy Week

As Easter falls in the school holidays, our Holy Week Liturgies will be held in Week 10. On Wednesday 10 April, all students will be active participants in the Palm Sunday and Holy Thursday Reflections.

We would like to have as many students as possible carrying palms as they move between the Palm Sunday and Holy Thursday Liturgies. It is hoped that many students will be able to bring a palm from home. These palms need to be of a manageable size so that students are comfortable in carrying them and gently waving the leaves as part of the prayer reflection.

We look forward to all students engaging in these special liturgies and connecting to the Easter story. Parents are welcome to join us too, further details are below.

NAPLAN

The National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual national assessment of all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. Students will be assessed in Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation), Writing, Reading and Numeracy. The tests are scheduled for the weeks commencing 13 and 20 May.

NAPLAN is moving from paper tests to computer-based assessments. NAPLAN online uses a tailored testing system which automatically adapts the test and asks students questions that match their ability allowing for more detailed and useful individual results.

Parent-Teacher Interviews

As part of the Pre-Primary to Year 6 Assessment and Reporting process, Parent-Teacher Interviews will be taking place from Monday 8 April. This is a valuable time for you to spend with the class teacher to discuss your child's academic and social progress.

Your child is not required to come along to the interview as it will be a two-way process between teacher and parent/s. However, we encourage all parents to discuss their child's future goals with them at home after the interview.

All parents are required to book their parent teacher meeting online (PTO).  Bookings can be made from the afternoon of Wednesday 3 April.  More information will come next week with links to the booking site.

Kind regards

Sports News

Last Thursday the Years 4 to 6 Swimming Squad competed in the Interschool Carnival at Newman College. It was the first time that this event was held under a new format.  This involved combining to separate IPSHA Carnivals into one and including two heats for each event. After running both heats, the top four swimmers were then presented with their ribbons based on their recorded times.

The Carnival was a huge success and our students performed particularly well. We competed against nine other IPSHA schools and in the 50 races held, our students won 16 and finished 2nd in 7 other events. In summary, we received 39 top four places in 50 races. We also won 4 of the 6 relays.  This also included 3 NEW RECORDS, one in the Year 6 Mixed 50m Freestyle Relay and in the Years 5 & 6 Mixed Medley Relays. Congratulations to Sylvia Czajko who broke a record in the Girls 50m Freestyle race.  All our competitors represented the school with distinction.

We have had a very successful swimming season and all students should be proud of their efforts. Thank you to parents, Lisha D’Souza and Sue Matera for coordinating the parent volunteers at the swimming events throughout the term and also to Miss O’Donnell and Mrs Taylor for their wonderful assistance at the IPSHA Carnival.
