Can’t Do Tomorrow Art Excursion
On Monday, 24th of February, the year 12 studio arts and visual communication and design class were both provided with the amazing opportunity of taking an excursion to the art exhibition ‘Can’t Do Tomorrow’, located in Kensington. This large exhibition featured 3 floors of an old warehouse, filled corner to corner, floor to ceiling, with a range of art works, by International and Australian street artists. In fact, some works were quite literally, on the floor and ceiling!
When we initially arrived at the exhibition, we all got to know the two artists who we would be working with that day, who’s artworks are also featured in the exhibition. Following this, we had a tour around all three floors of the gallery, providing us with further inspiration in regards to our own ideas, where we saw so many beautiful pieces, and as each piece was from a different artist, they were all different, which was great!
After being given a tour of the exhibition, we all got into our own groups of what we wanted to spend the next 8 hours creating. The groups consisted of a “Foods of Australia”, a “gallery in a box” and the “portrait wall”. After the 8 hours of creating had concluded, our work was hung up and displayed in our own gallery space, which was then shared with 2 other schools.
Throughout the entirety of the day, every student worked so hard in completing their pieces, which we all managed to get completed in time. As studio arts captain, I am extremely proud to say that everyone was working well, and that we were all best behaved! Our artwork was then viewed for 1 week by hundreds of people.
This opportunity to go to ‘Can’t Do Tomorrow’ art exhibition was so greatly appreciated, as we got to experience the street art community in Australia through the viewing of artworks, but also got to experiment and explore with different materials and styles, which will be great for our studio processes. All in all, I would definitely rate this a 10/10 experience.
