Principal's Report

Year 7 Camp
Two hundred and ninety six Year 7 students attended the Philip Island Adventure Resort for 3 days of fun and adventure. Accompanying the students were 16 Year 10 Peer Support Leaders and 32 staff. The camp was a wonderful experience for all involved, it is a great way for students to get to know each other and for staff to get to know our new Year 7 students. The program was full of exciting activities and kept all participants busy and occupied. A camp of this magnitude cannot happen without the outstanding effort of our four Year 7 House Leaders. Congratulations and well done to Kieran Shah, Kathleen Pryor, Eliza Chancellor and Robbie Muljana for their great leadership before and during the camp. A special thank you to Phil Van Ginneken for his leadership and guidance of the wonderful peer support students and thank you to our wellbeing department for supplying wellbeing placement students to help in the various groups. I was constantly impressed with the behaviour and keenness of our Year 7's throughout the camp, all participants should be proud of the way they conducted themselves over the three days.
Monash Zone Swimming
I had the pleasure of presenting ribbons at the Monash Zone swimming carnival at Ringwood last week. Brentwood students once again performed brilliantly, they managed to be victorious in the Junior, Intermediate and the overall placings. Once again, it was a great overall performance from our team, they were disciplined, focussed and well presented. Well done to Kim Nash our Director of Sport and her team for preparing our swimmers for the event. A special thank you to the teachers who officiated on the day. Those students who were successful will now compete in the Eastern Zone meet, so good luck to them. They will now step up into a higher level of competition.
Student Learning Conferences and Interim reports
Student learning conferences are coming up on Thursday 19 March, from 12:00pm to 8:00pm. Learning conferences are an opportunity for a three-way conversation between parents, students and teachers. Students should reflect on their efforts and discuss future learning goals and challenges with their parents and teachers. As active participants in their own education, students are expected to attend the learning conferences with you. Brief Interim reports will be available to download via Compass on 11 March.
Bookings for individual learning conference appointments are now open via Compass and will close at 4:30pm on Wednesday 18 March. The map of the college attached will help you in planning your learning conference appointments. To optimise your learning conferences it can be helpful to leave a break between appointments with teachers. If you have any questions about learning conferences please contact the college on 8545 0300.
Clean Up Brentwood Day
On February 28th, student leaders from the Green Team and House Captains participated in Clean Up Brentwood Day. Throughout the clean-up, it was noticed by participating students and staff that the amount of waste and recyclables has reduced at Brentwood compared to previous years. A big thank you to all families for listening to the Green Team request and sending ‘nude-food’ in student lunches. Our community is committed to reducing the amount of plastics sent to the college in student lunches and value the ongoing support of families.
