A Message from the

Head of Prep School

Term 2 Week 1

Dear Parents,

As always the students have returned refreshed and eager to start another term.  Their excitement in catching up with friends and their teacher is always a pleasure to see.

We welcome back Mrs Richelle Coote from maternity leave on Year 1 and welcome Mrs Nicole Caro who is our Prep Librarian this term as Mrs Nicole Deans takes long service leave.

This term is short in duration but big on happenings both inside and outside of the classroom.

Winter sport begins this week with 28 teams competing across netball, hockey, football and rugby. As you can imagine this demands a great deal of organisation and to ensure its success thanks go to Mrs Lou Barrett (MIC Sport) Mrs Lisa Pengilly (MIC Netball) and Mrs Bernie Sharpe (MIC Football).  Many thanks also to our parents who are coaching and managing teams. Your assistance is pivotal to the success of sport in the Prep.

While on sport, our Inter-House Cross Country Carnival takes place next Tuesday 8th May 2018.  Parents are welcome, indeed encouraged to attend.  All information is on FROG.

Last term we finished with our Inter-House Athletic Carnival.  The students’ willingness to compete in as many races as possible, the spirit in which they competed and the support from staff, parents and students made for an outstanding carnival.  Congratulations to Mrs Barrett for again organising this event for the students.

Thanks are also extended to the students and staff who represented the school at the Anzac March and Service.  To have 87 students involved was a wonderful reflection on the importance of the day to so many Australians.  The students were excellent ambassadors in very warm conditions.  Thank you also to the parents and staff in attendance who provided regular fluid intake for the students.

Our P&F Association kindly donated funds to purchase seating for our students in the undercover and assembly areas.  These provide better seating for students, especially as winter approaches.  We greatly appreciate the generosity of the P&F and thank them for making our environment even better.

The following students were acknowledged last term:

  • Courtesy Award –Week 11 Disha Prasad (Kindergarten)
  • Citizenship Award – Week 11 – Harriet Johnston (Kindergarten)
  • Principal’s Award – Week 11 - Harper Purvis (Kindergarten)

From next Friday 11th May 2018 Mrs Kennewell will be taking a well-deserved long service leave break.  We welcome Mrs Ruth Edwards, who many of you know from the Secondary School administration.  We wish Mrs Kennewell a wonderful break and extend a warm welcome to Mrs Edwards.

Ms Ann-Margaret Gunther also takes long service leave from Monday 14th May 2018.  Ms Belinda Ferguson will step into the Director’s role while Ms Kate Walker and Ms Prue Freeth will be covering pre-prep duties.

I look forward to a most rewarding and fulfilling term.

Enjoy your week.

Mr Rob McLean
