WEEKLY WRAP

(24 May - 26 May) Round 5

1: Year 7 Red – Ray McManus (Coach), Ren (Team Manager)

Mazenod Red Lost 40 to Bassendean 74

Even though we did not get the four points this week, the scoreboard does not reflect how well we played against Bassendean. Only one quarter let us down, but the boys improvement is evident in how they are starting to structure up and understand the game. When asked to try and keep Bassendean to no more than three goals in the final quarter, the boys responded magnificently to only allow two goals and kick three of their own. Very proud of the team effort. Love hearing the supporters in full voice encouraging the boys!

2: Year 7 Blue – Michael Ferritto (Coach), Paula (Team Manager)

Mazenod Blue Won 56 to Swan View 35

Our players came out rearing to go in our game against Swan View.  We had a full complement of players for the first time this season. We hit the scoreboard early and skipped away to a 3 goal lead using the breeze to our advantage. Our run slowed in the second quarter and we allowed Swan View to hit back and score 3 goals but we managed a goal against the breeze which would prove to be very important later in the game. It was a seesawing game in the third and we didn’t really capitalise on our dominance in the game and didn’t use the breeze to our advantage. We lost one of our players to injury in the third and it was looking like a tough task to hold on to our hard fought lead.  We headed into the last quarter with a goal and a half lead against the breeze. Swan View have been finishing their games well as they had numbers on the bench. We played an outstanding last quarter and with only 15 players out ran Swan View to finish 3 goal winners. The boys are gelling well and started to really share the ball and spread to open up the game and with improving skills got just reward today.

We look forward to training this week and having a week off to get our bodies fit and healthy again for the next phase of the competition.  Well done boys! Thanks to all of our volunteer helpers today. It was great you could be part of a good win. Enjoy your weekend off.

Mazenod Blue Won 43 to Coolbinia 21

7: Year 9 White – Mike Mount-Bryson (Coach), Elena (Team Manager)

Mazenod Lost 63 to Kalamunda Gold 65

9: Year 11 Blue – Shane Lanzon (Coach), Santino (Team Manager)

Mazenod Blue Won 86 to Bassendean White 53

A hard fought game against Bassendean saw a tight tussle until the end when Mazenod were able to kick away in the last quarter and grab the win. There was great leadership from a number of our players around the ground. It was great to see the boys show their true character and stay focused and come away with the win.  After the game the umpires were complimentary of our team for keeping calm throughout the game and not get involved in a couple of negative incidences that took place. Thanks to Ben Hopkins, Bailey Smith and Liam Taylor for filling in on the day.

10: Year 12 White – Will Morris (Coach), John (Team Manager)

Mazenod White Lost 40 to Bassendean Black 74
