Principal's Message

Message from Mr Graham Jones

Firstly, I have the pleasure of announcing that I was appointed as Principal of Boorowa Central School this week. I consider it an enormous privilege to be the leader of our fantastic school and I pledge to fulfill the expectations of the students, staff and community to the best of my ability in the future. My family and I are all very excited.

SMArt and Drama Night

Well what an absolutely stunning display of talent and school spirit. Students from all years (and even a few staff) demonstrated their musical, singing and dancing talents before a packed house. I was thoroughly entertained throughout the entire night and everyone involved is to be congratulated for all their hard work. A special thank you to Mr Jason Stuart for all his hard work organising the night and for giving the students the confidence to shine.

NAPLAN

The students NAPLAN results were mailed home earlier this week. It was pleasing to see across the school that our percentage of students in the top 2 bands for Reading and Numeracy rose by 5% from last year.  As I look closer at the results, the Year 5 cohort have achieved a higher average scaled growth when compared to the Statistically Similar School Group (SSSG) and the state in all areas except Writing. Our Year 7 cohort had higher average scaled results when compared to the SSSG and the state in Reading, Writing, Spelling and Numeracy with Grammar and Punctuation an area for improvement.

Our Year 9 cohort outperformed the SSSG and state in all domains when comparing the average scaled growth.  All of these are pleasing results and with a continued focus on specific areas for improvement we can anticipate further growth in the future for all our students.

Year 12

Its the final week for the Year 12 class of 2019. They have been dressed in theme all week and enjoyed a variety of activities on Wednesday. We gave each of the students their portfolio's in their Graduation assembly and then celebrated the completion of their schooling life with an afternoon of activities and a social. I would like to wish these students good luck in the up coming Higher School Certificate exams and for life after Boorowa Central School.

Woolfest

Boorowa Central School will be participating in the Woolfest parade again this year. I have sent a letter home with information with the oldest child in each family. I would love to see as many students as possible proudly marching with the school on the Sunday of the long weekend to demonstrate to all our visitors the strength of public schooling in our community. I hope to see you all on the day.

New Discipline System

I have completed a comprehensive consultation process with students, staff, parents and Department of Education personnel to update our Discipline system. The new version will be implemented in term 4. Notable changes include the introduction of a blue Classroom Teacher card and the yellow 'Back on Track card'. The Back on Track card is to be utilised when a student returns from suspension.

The No-Go list has been replaced by a 'Pause Point'. It is an opportunity to reflect on the choices that have led to the Orange card placement and to commit to improving before attending excursions and extra-curricular activities.

Finally, I would like to wish all of our families a safe and happy holiday. I hope you all have the opportunity to spend quality time with each other and to rest and recuperate for a big term 4.

Thank you for all of your support this term.
