Middle Years

I would like to congratulate our Middle Years students; students are doing well with their remote learning. I hope you were able to speak to your son or daughter’s teachers during the Parent-Student-Teacher Interviews held over two sessions over the last two weeks. I found these interviews valuable. Please contact your son’s or daughter’s teachers or Mentor if you have any queries regarding academic progress.
In last week’s Assembly, I talked to students about the need to choose wisely each day:
You can choose:
- to look on the bright side and take a positive mind set to stay the course
- to remember there are others doing it tougher than us
- to realise how lucky you are to have wonderful families and be at a school where teachers care and want the best for you
- to look after your friends and ask them how they are
- to keep your sense of humour and playfulness
- to wake up in the morning and set your intentions
- to bring energy and enthusiasm to each lesson
- to focus and avoid distractions
- to be kind and helpful to everyone you see in your day
- to be your best despite the challenges
- to pursue your passion and not give up until you reach your dream
- to talk to parents and let them into your world, not being afraid of difficult conversations
RLP Housekeeping Matters
- Teachers are checking class rolls several times during lessons and downloading rolls at the end of lessons. It is important that students are present in each class and actively completing the set work.
- One of the current challenges is making sure students are posting appropriately online, and we indicated to students last week that we can see what is being posted on Teams. Remote learning requires a high degree of self-discipline and maturity.
- Please reinforce to your son and daughter that, if they post inappropriate content, there will be repercussions, including possible suspensions (noting, this would be on your school record). Yes, the suspension is different during a remote period, but the behavioural issue would be brought to Dr Hirst’s attention.
In Wellbeing classes, our current themes are gratitude and mindfulness. We often show short videos and use these for class discussions. I would recommend this short Headspace video. Headspace is currently releasing excellent resources.
