Senior School Summer Sport 2020/21

As many of you are aware, winter sporting fixtures for most grades came to an early end just over a week ago. Since that time, discussion has taken place as to what Rugby, Football and Tennis activities may occur over the next two weeks in order to cater to our boys’ interests and possibly help alleviate the disappointment. There is much to factor in and it is an ongoing exercise. Please know that relevant students and their parents will be notified if any of the activities being considered at present will take place.

That said, it is also time to cast our attention toward to the 2020/21 Summer season with hope that the Cricket, Basketball, Baseball and Swimming competitions will take place and bring back some sense of normality. It is the College’s intention to plan accordingly and commence trials on or around Tuesday 8 September thus enabling boys to engage with their peers in an area of interest outside the classroom. Details relating to trial times and venues will be released to the boys via morning announcements and Year Noticeboards in due course.

In the meantime, parents and students are advised that the Senior School Summer season sign-ups for Cricket, Basketball and Baseball will take place at the following times and locations:

Cricket – Lunchtimes on Monday 31 August and Tuesday 1 September - Hickey driveway. Boys will need to know their age group. In essence:

  • Boys play in the age group they turn after 31 August this year. E.g., if you are already 13 by 31 August then you are in the 14s.

Baseball – Lunchtime on Monday 31 August - Smollett Place. Boys will need to know their age group. In essence:

  • U14 (age as at 31 Dec 2020) if you are aged 12 or 13,
  • U16 (age as at 31 Dec 2020) if you are aged 14 or 15.
  • U19 (age as at 31 Dec 2020) if you are aged 16, 17 or 18

Basketball - Lunchtimes on Monday 31 August and Tuesday 1 September - in front of College Chapel. Boys will need to know their age group. In essence:

  • Boys play in an age group based on their age as of 31 December 2020.

Swimming – Sign-ups to take place at the start of Term 4.

I would strongly encourage all parents and boys to ensure that discussion takes place at home prior to a boy registering his name and intent to play this summer. Once a boy registers his name, it is the College’s understanding that he will trial and if selected, play out the season. A boy’s participation in the above-mentioned activities will go towards his 2021 Co-curricular involvement.
