Assessment Tasks

We are now in Week 8. All students should be working on Term 3 Assessment Tasks. Homework help is available at lunch time in the Learning Centre and also during homework club on Thursday afternoons.

Students are encouraged to submit drafts for all assessments before their due date in order for teachers to provide feedback. While specific instructions may not be given, guiding advice can help elevate response quality. Drafts may not be accepted if submitted too close to the assessment due date.

Year 9 - The Church in Australia - Update #1

As part of Year 9's studies in Religious Education, we have been investigating the role of the Catholic Church in Australia and how this has changed over time. To do so, we are undertaking a project based approach to learning.

We are working in teams for the entirety of this ten week unit and have spent the last fortnight focusing on developing our teamwork skills. This ranged from discussions around what makes a good team member to a cumulative project in which we attempted to construct a single egg delivery device. The device was drop from the Year 4 balcony with the intention of the egg inside surviving. However, some attempts were more successful than others.

From here we began focusing on the historical events that make up the Church's history in Australia, beginning in 1803, when the first Catholic Mass was celebrated, all the way through to today. We visited Pius X Aboriginal Corporation, celebrating Mass with Year 8 and hearing from Aunty Eileen about her experiences in the Catholic tradition.

Highlights for this unit included video conferencing with students in the Philippines at St Jude's Catholic School Manila, filming educative catholic videos for a young audience, and recording our own podcast.

Year 7 - Zine Fair Tuesday 24th September

We are fast approaching the date for our zine fair. Please remember, all members of the St Philomena's community are invited from 2:20pm to 3:00pm on Tuesday 24th September to attend an exhibition of these student works in the Parish Hall (old school hall).  Student zines will be available for purchase for a gold coin donation, all proceeds going to the Moree St Vincent de Paul Society. All classes at St Philomena's are also invited to drop by at this time and check out the published work of the students in Year 7.

Miss Humphries and I are so excited to celebrate the ongoing fantastic work of our current Year 7 cohort with you. If you have any questions about this event, please contact me at jmccallu@arm.catholic.edu.au.
