Pre-service teachers at Marian Term 2, 2022

This term the English and HSIE faculties were fortunate to have two pre-service teachers complete placements at Marian as part of their teacher degrees.

Connor Matheson joined the English faculty in Week 1. Connor worked closely with Ms Griffiths, Mrs Parle and Mrs Swan. It was clear from the start that Connor was an extremely competent teacher who approached his practicum enthusiastically and professionally at all times. 

Testament to this were the positive relationships he forged with both his supervising teachers and members of his classes. His lessons were always well prepared and engaging, incorporating the latest developments in pedagogical practices.

Sarah Connelly began her placement in the HSIE faculty in week 4 and will conclude at the end of the term. Sarah has worked closely with Mr Lyon and Mrs Panebianco across a range of HSIE subjects. Sarah is a former student of Marian (and a former student of Mr Lyon!) and it has been wonderful to have her return to her Alma mater as a pre-service teacher. In Sarah’s time at Marian she has taught a range of year groups and topics ranging from interconnections with year 7 to environmental management with year 10. 

Sarah further extended herself with the inquiry model of elective history in year 10 with a focus on organised crime. Her expertise as a senior history teacher was further utilised in Preliminary Modern history with classes focused on an historical investigation project; a challenging yet engaging unit.

Both Connor and Sarah have excelled in their pre-service placements at Marian. Connor has started employment at Marian and is an excellent addition to the teaching staff. Sarah has another placement remaining for her degree and we wish her well in her placement and future teaching opportunities.

Pre-service placements are an integral part of teaching degrees and provide pre-service teachers with valuable teaching experience in a variety of education settings. At Marian we aim to provide pre-service teachers with a range of teaching experiences to make their placements not only memorable but valuable parts of their journeys in education.
