Leader of Teaching and Learning
As the term draws to a close, I would like to share some important information with you all. Semester 1 Reports for Years 7-10 will be available via Compass next Thursday the 30th June.
All students at Marian Catholic College receive a comprehensive report at the end of each semester detailing their Semester Result, their Commitment to Learning and achievements, progress, strengths and areas for improvement as described in the Commendations and Recommendations. Students with a Modified Report Disclaimer follow a Selected or Lower Outcome Curriculum.
Semester Result
A grade is awarded to report student achievement at Marian Catholic College. A to E grade scales describe how well students have achieved. Teachers make professional on-balance judgements to decide which grade description best matches the standards their students have achieved at a particular point-in-time. These decisions are based on evidence of achievement and information teachers have collected during the teaching and learning.

A | The student has an extensive knowledge and understanding of the content and can readily apply this knowledge. In addition, the student has achieved a very high level of competence in the processes and skills and can apply these skills to new situations |
B | The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations |
C | The student has a sound knowledge and understanding of the main areas of content and has achieved an adequate level of competence in the processes and skills |
D | The student has a basic knowledge and understanding of the content and has achieved a limited level of competence in the processes and skills |
E | The student has an elementary knowledge and understanding in a few areas of the content and has achieved very limited competence in the some processes and skills |
N | Unsatisfactory achievement |
Commitment to Learning
Student effort, application and approach to learning is reported by teachers using a scale of Rarely, Sometimes, Usually, Always. Below is a description of each area:

Brings required equipment to class and is well organised | Brings writing utensils and equipment, workbooks, laptop and textbooks to class consistently. Laptop is charged, workbook is neatly ordered and the student uses a diary/calendar/notes to organise themselves and complete tasks by the due date |
Follows instructions and allows others to learn | Has respect for the learning of others by listening, sharing and remaining focussed. Abides by all teacher instructions politely |
Completes homework and assignments | Submits all tasks to an acceptable standard and in a timely manner. Completes homework consistently and engages with additional resources such as Education Perfect, Edrolo and Google Classroom |
Commendations and Recommendations
All students at MCC receive 3 commendations acknowledging and affirming achievement, strengths, improvement and skills. They also receive 3 recommendations that provide constructive feedback, identify areas of improvement, suggestions and possible learning goals.
Parents are encouraged to have a constructive and solution focussed learning conversation with their child about all aspects of this report before attending our Zoom Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences on the first Wednesday back in Term 3 (July 20th from 3:45 - 7pm).
Meanwhile, our staff will spend the first day back next term (Monday the 18th July) engaging in Professional Learning on extending and enriching high achievers and diverse learners through a range of critical thinking, differentiation, authentic learning and engagement strategies. I look forward to sharing some of the exciting learning, implementation and initiatives with you all in the coming weeks.
