Camp Wilkin

We had an absolutely amazing three days away on camp! Students participated in Bike Riding, the Leap of Faith, Flying Fox, Archery, Low Ropes Course and Rock Climbing. We also enjoyed delicious food, free time in the games room and playground, a Movie night with popcorn and a Disco night where we danced and sang until it was time for bed.

A special thanks to our parent helpers Belinda, Allison, Laura and Matt for giving their time to assist students and staff in making this trip run as smoothly as it did - we couldn't have done it without you! A big thankyou also to Luke for coordinating the camp, Sonia for organising all of the medications while we were away and to Francis and the rest of the 3/4 team for their work in helping to make this trip a success.

Topic - A Special Presentation

During our Topic this term, we are exploring the idea of being in 'Someone Else's Shoes' as we learn about different disabilities and consider what it is like to live with a disability. To start off our unit we had Gen, Cai and Jacquie join us to discuss what it's like to live with cerebral palsy. Gen shared about her son, Matthew, who has cerebral palsy and Cai shared about his own story of growing up with cerebral palsy.

Thankyou in particular to Cai for working hard to prepare a PowerPoint presentation and allowing students to ask multiple questions about himself. He did such a fantastic job and students loved having the opportunity learn more about how different everyday life can be when you have this condition.

Learning in Weeks 3 & 4

Mathematics: Students have been working hard during Fluid Groups on our topic of 'Multiplication'. This will continue for the next fortnight as there have been a few interruptions to these sessions with camp and we would like students to have as much time as possible to develop skills in this important area of the curriculum. We will also continue to explore 'Shapes' and 'Angles' in our weekly Applied Maths sessions.

Writing & Reading: During this next fortnight, we will be focusing on Narrative Writing. Students will be exploring how to use 'Connectives' and 'Dialogue' in their stories and will finish off this short unit with a Narrative Big Write at the end of Week 4. In Reading, we will focus on paying attention to new vocabulary we come across and asking questions as we read.

Topic: As mentioned above, our Topic focus for this term is 'Someone Else's Shoes'. We look forward to learning about more disabilities in this upcoming fortnight and how we can better show empathy towards others.
