Winter sailing Skill Development
A small group of lads have braved the Antartic blasts to have a go at developing some sailing skills.
Boys from both Junior and Senior schools are invited, especially those who have done the Tacker Courses.
The sessions are Sunday afternoons 2-4pm, except the last Sunday of the month.
Br Peter Flint is running the program, assisted by parents and others. Sailing in mid winter has its issues and safety is number one. So there is no guarantee that the program will happen on scheduled Sundays and cancellations can be at short notice, always before 12 noon on the Sunday. While capsizes are to be expected, training will be of a generally “sedate” nature reducing the possibility of a capsize experience to a minimum. The program may not be suitable for slightly built boys. Appropriate clothing is required. Details available upon request.
In the past, sVc sailing teams have represented the College and Australia at an international level. Sailing is also a sport / recreational activity that can last a lifetime. It can be physically and intellectually demanding. While this Winter program is not training for competition, the boys may have an opportunity to do so later in the year. The program aims to develop basic skills in sailing Pacer dinghies.
The above photo “says it all.”
Call to Arms
Current sailors, either helms or crews, would be very very helpful with helping these new comers get the basic skills.
