Head of Junior School
Mrs Jo Messer
Throughout this year, the Junior School Staff have been collaborating and revising our Behaviour Formation expectations, processes, and documentation. We are using the document, The Virgilian Way, created by the Secondary Campus, and are in the process of adapting it as a guide for the young boys who are in our care here at the Junior School.
At St Virgil’s College our values are: Community, Respect, Justice, Kindness, Learning.
We commit to words and deeds that uphold these values. We understand that we are accountable for our words and deeds and commit to restoring and repairing relationships when our behaviour does not reflect our values.
Together as a staff we have discussed what each of these values should look like at the Junior School and created short simple statements that uphold each of them, as well as our expectations of student behaviour. Once finalised we will discuss these with the boys as well as share them with you, our parent body.
Friday June 10 : Student Free Day
This is a reminder that Friday June 10 is a student free day and Monday June 13 is a public holiday.
Tuesday June 14: Formal Class and Group Photos
On June 14, class and other group photos will be taken. All boys in Grades 3-6 must be in their full formal uniform on this day, including Grade 6 students who have PE and any boys who have sport training after school. Grade 6 boys may pack their sneakers in their bag to get changed into for PE if they wish to. Boys with after school sport training may pack their sports uniform to get changed into.
Mid-Year Assembly
Our Mid-Year assembly is an occasion where we gather to recognise the efforts of boys who have performed well in the classroom and in specialist subjects. Class teachers award 5 certificates to boys in their class and specialist teachers award a certificate per class. A School Spirit Award is also awarded per class. It is also an opportunity to showcase our Junior School Choir and Grade 5 and 6 bands.
The date for our Mid-Year Assembly has moved to Wednesday July 6. The wonderful news is that due to the easing of COVID 19 restrictions, we will be welcoming back parents to attend. The time of the assembly will be 1.00pm and it will be held in the Nagle Centre at St Mary’s College. Formal notification will be sent once details have been finalised.

Mid-Year Reports and Parent Teacher Conferences
Mid-Year Reports will be released to parents on Wednesday July 6. Parent Teacher conferences will be on the first day of Term Three, Monday July 25, which will also be a student free day.
P and F
Last night the P and F had a meeting online. It was wonderful to see so many people in attendance. There were some terrific ideas discussed about potential future events at the Junior School. Coming up in Term 3 & 4 will be a Football Fun Day, a Wine and Cheese Night, Father’s Day Breakfast and Grandparents’ Day. The idea of a ‘Silent Disco’ was also discussed. Details will be circulated once dates and details are finalised.
St Mary’s College Mini Winter Feast: Friday June 17
On Friday evening, June 17, St Mary’s College is hosting a Mini Winter Feast from 5.00pm on the College Green and Nagle Centre. Part of the evening will involve two discos for Grade 3/4 and Grade 5/6 students. There will also be spit roasts, curries, warm drinks, and musical entertainment. Boys and their families are encouraged to attend.
Cross Country Team
Congratulations to the following boys on being selected to represent SVC at upcoming representative Cross Country carnivals: JSSATIS (June 28) and STCPSSA (July 4). Representing St Virgil’s is a great honour and thus comes with expectations around class work and behaviour. Each student’s position in the team will be subject to him fulfilling his obligations in the classroom and on the playground.

Term 2 Uniform Reminders and Updates
We have changed the hat policy for Terms Two and Three in accordance with recommendations from the Cancer Council. Boys will no longer be required to wear their bucket hat at recess and lunch in Terms 2 and 3.
Now that the winter weather has descended, please remember that your son must have the full sports uniform. The full unform includes the soft-shell jacket and track pants. These must be worn to and from school on sport and training days as well as to weekend sport. Please ensure that your son has these items. The new beanies are selling like hotcakes and are also available for purchase. They are only to be worn with the sports uniform.
Formal Uniform: boys must wear their jumper to school under their blazer. Once in the classroom, if it is warm, they may remove it. Otherwise, it may not be removed until morning tea. As an additional layer of warmth, boys may, during the day, wear their soft-shell jacket over their jumper. The soft-shell jacket is not to replace the jumper. Boys also have the option of wearing a long sleeve shirt or long pants.
