Last Wednesday, our Stage 5 music class performed a concert for Kindergarten and Year 1 students in the secondary music room. This was a part of their stage 5 RoSA assessment task as they had been studying children’s music this term. All of the Kinder/Year 1 students thoroughly enjoyed the concert as they danced and sang happily to a variety of songs. Some of them were well known, while others were completely new. Some hits on the day were The Hokey Pokey, Rock-A-Bye Your Bear, Dance With Micah and The Freeze Game. It was amazing to see different year groups mixing together and for students in Years 9 and 10 having fun with younger students.
'The energy in the room was nothing like we’ve seen before'. - Tom
'All the children were really engaged and excited' - Charlotte
'I’ve never seen so many kids look enthusiastic'. - Harry
'I enjoyed playing for the K/1’s because the energy was through the roof'. - Shae
'It was a good experience' - Alex
'I’ve never felt that much energy before. I really liked it'. - Charley
'The concert was lots of fun. The kids were all really engaged. All the groups did a really good job and kept the audience engaged'. - Kayleigh
'It was crazy. It was like a rock concert. There was also a mosh pit'. - Eloise
Mr West is very thankful to Mrs Longfield, Mrs de Kraker, Mrs Twitchen, Mrs Hefferen and Mrs Lancaster for letting us borrow their lovely students. It was a wonderful experience and we look forward to hosting our Kinder/Year 1 students up in high school music again soon.
On Wednesday 8 June, students in Years 7-10 enjoyed watching a performance by the theatre company Poetry in Action. The actors performed poetry from around the world. Poems from the distant past and present were presented. The show was extremely enjoyable and concluded with an encouragement to students to practised their writing skills.
On Monday 6 June, Stages 2 and 3 Netballers travelled to the Illawarra Sports Stadium to compete in the South Coast Christian Schools Metro Cup Netball Competition. All the girls gave it their best 'shot' and proudly represented NCS, sporting their brand new uniforms.
In the senior girls competition, NCS came away with one win, against Calderwood Christian School. Their final game, against Southern Highlands, saw an excellent comeback. The girls were behind 6 goals at half time, and quickly made up for it, scoring 6 quick goals in the second half. Southern Highlands came through at the end with two more goals, leaving this nail-biting game at a close, but not close enough, finish for Nowra. This was nothing short of an excellent effort from all our senior girls.
Meanwhile, over on the other side of the stadium, our NCS Junior team were 'stepping' on the competition, remaining undefeated for the entire tournament. The girls played with determination and skill. A fantastic shot from Claire H from the edge of the goal circle in the last half was a sight to watch. Many thanks to Brad D for his fantastic team management. And how could we leave out our wonderful parent and grandparent supporters, cheering the girls on from the sideline throughout the competition? Our Juniors left the stadium, parading a large gold trophy and individual medals. Overall, it was a high-spirited day with many exciting and memorable moments. The girls showed good sportsmanship, played their best and had fun!
Our 7th Annual Tour de Worrigee/ French day was held last Wednesday. The weather was stunning and the students were excited to hit the track and compete.
As usual, the first stage of the competition was riding around the bus bay as fast as possible. Jarrod M (16 laps) and Chloe C (11 laps) recorded the highest number of laps for the male and female categories in this section. For the 'mountain' stage, students rode across the basketball court, past room 12, around in front of the MPC, out the gate into the bus bay and then back onto the basketball court. Again there was a great deal of enthusiasm and many fast riders, but this time Lukas J and Zec B took the honours (17 laps), with Chloe again leading the girls (13).
The final stage was the time trial of one lap of the basketball court. In this, Daniel B was the star taking only 11:81 seconds to complete the course. Again Chloe led the females with 12:07 being recorded. Later in the day there was a race to complete a jigsaw map of France and Team Ineos Grenadiers won this challenge. Well done Emily, Emma, Raine, Sophie and Chloe! Croque-monsieurs (ham and cheese toasties), the movie 'The Walk', Eiffel Tower model creation and posters were other activities to participate in. The day passed in a flurry of activity and was greatly enjoyed.
Elsie's coach Brad writes:
The Shoalhaven 12 Girls team was excited to travel to Bathurst for the 2022 Country Cup to represent Southern NSW after winning the Branch Titles in May. The Country Cup is conducted annually to find the best NSW Country team. With limited preparation, the team was able to make the finals, playing 6 games in 2 days of intense football action. Shoalhaven played pool games against: Southern Tablelands winning 4-0, Griffith losing 1-3, Orange winning 8-1, Bathurst winning 4-0, Eurobodalla winning 4-0.
These amazing team results allowed us to play the finals against Griffith, the only undefeated team in the competition. This was a physical game with the Shoalhaven girls matching Griffith in every aspect of the game and creating some amazing opportunities on goal. Unfortunately, they were unable to hit the back of the net in normal and extra time, meaning we had to go to the dreaded penalty shoot-out. Ultimately, the girls lost 2-4, resulting in them finishing runners-up. Elsie P has quickly become an important member of the team with her tenacity and eager attitude to learning. Elsie has impressed over 2 competitions this representative season and she has had to show resilience and flexibility while playing in the defence and midfield areas of the pitch. Elsie’s attitude and all-round sporting ability make her an important member of our team and a credit to her school.
Stages 2 and 3 have had a very athletic time of it in Term 2! Students have participated in jumping, throwing and running events during our athletics program here at school. Even with the cancellation of our school's annual Athletics Carnival, there were still ways to be found to hold running events on our school's Southern Oval instead. Staff worked creatively to mark and measure the courses. Our students were then able to participate in 100, 200 and 800m races that were competitively run, whilst eager classmates cheered one another on! Results are still being entered online, ahead of next term's zone athletics carnival. Our school's top two place-getters for each event, age group and gender will qualify for a place on NCS's primary team. Special thanks go to our grounds staff who worked hard to help prepare our equipment and grounds for students to use safely and effectively. We really appreciate you all. Also thanks go to our highly creative and innovative team of teachers and teachers' aides. They worked tirelessly to prepare students for their events and complete a myriad of tasks to enable these Years 3-4 and Years 5-6 days to happen. Heartfelt thanks!
New class sets of Bibles have arrived! This week, we had an exciting delivery - complete class sets of Bibles for primary school!
Earlier this year, our School Board made the decision to invest in age-appropriate class sets of Bibles for our primary school classes. As Christians, we believe that the Bible is truth and is how we get to know who God is. The Bible gives us an identity story, helps us understand who we are and what we are to do in the world. For our students, teaching them to read and understanding the bible for themselves is equipping them with a life-long skill. Interested in getting a bible for your child to read at home? These are the Bibles we got for the classrooms. You don’t need to change your child’s Bible each year, but this might help you choose one that suits their reading level.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. – 2 Timothy 3:16-17
During the Shoalhaven Eisteddfod, the committee nominates a variety of stand-out performances to be invited to participate in the 'Stars of the Eisteddfod' concert. This year, one of our Primary Drama groups had the privilege of being nominated.
Our 'Pirates of Penzance' group has continued to rehearse with their Secondary Directors, Corinne C and Charlotte K. Last Saturday saw our small group perform at the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre. Taj C, Isabelle F, Chantelle F, Benjamin G, Thomas H-S, Violet M and Jonathan S had the enjoyment of experiencing the huge stage, the dressing rooms and the high-tech of performing at a professional venue. They performed brilliantly and had the appreciative audience laughing.
Following the performance, we were surprised by a request to stay on stage as we were presented with the prestigious Helen Ring Award. This is given each year to a school that displays excellence in the performing arts through performances at the Eisteddfod.
Well done to our students who represented our school so ably!
