AFL Excursion – Fremantle Dockers –v- Hawks

Dane Carter, Doug Thompson, Amanda Gaunt and 22 students (day and boarders) left the College on Saturday 11th June 2022 to have fun in the city and watch the Dockers win against the Hawks.  Is this our Premiership year?  I hope so.  Go the Dockers!  Students and staff stayed at Karrinyup Waters and enjoyed several outings over the weekend. These trips are always a hit with both students and staff, we are so pleased that we are able to get out and about again.  We did however, have a number of students cancel at the last minute, this can make budgeting for events very tricky.  We understand that there can be last minute family emergencies that cause a cancellation but we hope that parents will support the College and reinforce that students should stick to their commitment of attending once they sign up for events.

Country Week

Country Week training is in full swing. We have teams for Touch Rugby, Netball, Volleyball, Indoor Cricket, and Basketball this year.  The squad is looking to be around 60 students plus 10 staff.  Fixtures will be shared closer to the event so that parents and family members can attend the games.  Brad Woodruff is doing a fine job of coordinating the squad and the coaches are out there every week with the students in preparation for this great week away.  Students attending Country Week will receive the College rugby jumper to wear while away, Barefoot Clothing will be manufacturing them for us.  As a country girl myself I cannot speak highly enough of the impact that Country Week has on students.  It is not just about playing the sport,  it is about being part of a team, being with your mates and for staff to participate with the students (and cheer them on) outside of the College environment.  We always look forward to Country Week.

College Ball

Keir Mulder – residential supervisor is leading the Ball Committee.  There have been a number of meetings and I believe the theme has been set.  I know the venue has been chosen and we will be dancing to live music again this year.  More information will be coming out shortly regarding the Ball.  The date is set in our calendar for Term 3, Friday 5th August, 2022 which is the eve of the Closed Weekend.

Motorcycle Group

The Denmark Ag Motorcycle Riders will commence riding on a Wednesday and/or Friday very soon, if students are keen to be involved they will need to complete the Motor Cycle Policy form and provide all of the necessary details, this must occur before riding can commence.  Last Friday students and staff inspected the gravel pit area and are now tasked to create a track design. Our Farm Manager Kevin Marshall has agreed to allocate machine hours to create the track.  This activity will be supervised by Eric Bogensperger who is a very experienced motorcycle rider. Subject to rider numbers I may have to allocate further staff to this activity.

Travel Arrangements for Home Weekend and End of Term

The College will organise travel arrangements (bus tickets) for the home weekend and end of term. The College books outward travel for home weekend and the end of Term 2, the return ticket is booked by the parent/guardian and must be booked to arrive early afternoon preferably into Denmark; late arrival will incur a pick up fee if the student is arriving into Albany by the College of $100.00; all other travel arrangements throughout the term are to be arranged by the parent/guardian.

Students Travelling on Public Transport

We request that a text is sent to the residential phones when your child is travelling via public transport or catching a flight to Albany so that we know that they are en route to us.  This is more a Duty of Care issue and confirms the information that should be also in Reach.  If you would like further information regarding this request please call me.

Vehicle Forms

Prior to any student vehicle/motorcycle being brought to the College please ensure all forms are completed and up-to-date and that any vehicle or motorbike that comes on to site has been approved.  Quad bikes will not be approved as part of our recreational motor cycle program.
