Game On For Year Ten

Year 10 at Maffra Secondary College is off to a flying start, with students eager to show their worth as learners.

Year 10 Coordinator Daniel Murphy spoke to the whole Year 10 cohort to explain to them all the things that will enable them to be successful at Year 10.

Students were reminded that in order to progress to Year 11 in 2021 they must meet certain goals.

These goals include:

  • At least 80% attendance for the year.
  • They must average a score of three or higher with their progress reports for the year.
  • At the end of Year 10, English they must be no more than six months behind in the academic level expected of Year 10 : that is, they must have a minimum VELs level of at least 9.5 for English.

Work Experience Week

All Year 10 students will be busy this term organising work experience, which will take place from Monday the 23rd of March until Friday the 27th of March.

There is much organising and preparation to undertake between now and then. All students must find their own company or business where they will undertake their work experience. Students can work in just about any field they wish. They are free to choose a job of their choice.

In addition to this there are a number of protocols to follow before students go out on work experience. Below is a timeline of when each protocol must be met:

Friday 21st February (Week 4): All students to have completed safe@work modules and tests, have given 2 printed copies of Awards of Attainment to Mrs Clarke, along with your Work Experience Request Forms.
Friday 28th February (Week 5): Mrs Clark will give you your Work Experience Arrangement form, to be signed by you, your parent/guardian and your employer.

Friday 6th March (Week 6): All signed Work Experience Arrangement Forms to be submitted to Mrs Clark (NOT NEGOTIABLE – forms will NOT be accepted after this date)

In L2L this week you will complete your resumes and submit a printed copy to Mrs Clark.

Friday 13th of March (Week 7): MSC send finalised Work Experience Arrangement forms to employers by this date. In L2L this week you will complete cover letters and submit a printed copy to Mrs Clark.

Monday 23rd March – Friday 27th March (Week 9): Work experience week. Complete your Logbook whilst on placement.

Attendance matters

This year at Maffra Secondary College we will be pushing for every student to be here every day, this is an important part of senior years  schooling, with every lesson having key content and skills that your child will need to succeed.

In Year 10 we aim to track each student’s individual attendance and celebrate the positive steps students take towards their schooling. Our Year 10  Attendance officer Megan Lemon will be making daily phone calls to find out why your child is away and make plans for work to be sent home, re-engagement or anything else we can do to support your child to return to school as soon as possible as we believe that attendance matters.
