English and Humanities

Congratulations are in order for Ebony Dewadasa in Year 12 for being selected to represent the college at the National Schools Constitutional Convention 2021 in March.

The National Schools Constitutional Conventions program aims to increase young Australians’ knowledge about the Australian Constitution and the role it plays in our democracy.

Ebony is one of 25 students selected to attend the two day convention. The topic this year is should the Constitution have a new preamble that would recognise our history, our aspirations and the many peoples and groups that make up our nation?

Ebony will be provided an opportunity to explore contemporary constitutional issues, be better informed about the Australian system of government and how the Australian Constitution provides the framework for our democracy. She is demonstrating an active interest in the traditions, processes and practices of government.

We are very excited for Ebony and look forward to hearing about her experience.

Debating 2021

Six Killester Debating teams participated in their first debate for 2021 as part of the Debaters Association of Victoria Debating Competition.

The teams have been meeting every Tuesday after School in the Library, preparing enthusiastically for this first debate. They researched, developed their arguments, wrote speeches and on the night calmed nerves to argue their cases.  Congratulations to D Grade Killester 2 Team, Lia Vrondou, Jeslyne Gnanasuresh and Airin Vinod who won their debate.

D Grade topic: that the government should subsidise tourism in regional Victoria

C Grade topic: that alcoholic products should be subject to plain packaging laws
