Tutor Program

TUTOR PROGRAM

Patterson River Secondary College have engaged additional teaching professionals to work as tutors in 2021, with the intention to support students in catching up on learning they may have missed in 2020 and help them reengage in school. With the addition of these tutors, the teaching teams at our school can ensure that students are provided additional and targeted support.

The tutors will primarily be assisting students in the classroom, focusing on literacy and numeracy skills with the philosophy of supporting students to develop more confidence and contentment in themselves as learners, as well as at school. We believe that this will have the most impact on success in learning.

By now, parents of students identified have been contacted and students are connected with the tutors that will be supporting them. Starting Week 4 of Term 1 the tutors will be working with students in person and also supporting them online via Teams with their learning.  We are tutoring 200 plus students and looking forward to the year.

Leanne Kirkland – Tutor Initiative Learning Leader

Hello! Let me introduce myself. I am one of the tutors and the leader of this project for the College in 2021.  I have a vast range of experience both in school and private industry with 16 years teaching experience.  I am highly passionate about what I do and have been given this opportunity to provide families the support and success that they need to help their child succeed. Looking forward to working with the tutoring students in 2021.

Stefan BALMES

Hello! I am one of the full-time tutors working in the tutor program. I have a few years experience working at the College as a casual relief teacher. My goal is to work with the teachers to ensure the students are guided down the right path in order to achieve excellence. I am very eager to aid those students who may have fallen behind last year due to the difficulties that came with remote learning and help them to become confident individuals who are proud of their learning.

Alice LIU

Hello! My name is Alice and I am one of the full-time tutors this year at the College.  I am completing my second and final year of my Masters of Teaching at Deakin University.  I am looking forward to helping students this year at the school to become positive, confident and successful learners and to achieve their learning goals through supporting their literacy and numeracy skills.  Some of my favourite subjects include Legal Studies, Maths and PE.  I also love sports, the outdoors, camping and freediving with marine wildlife.
