VCAL

Recent lockdown meant that the College Swimming Carnival was postponed but our VCAL students enthusiasm was not. The students tie-dyed T-shirts in house colours for staff and students to purchase and they all turned out fantastic.

YEAR 10 FORUM

On Wednesday, 25 February, our Year 10 students participated in a Forum Day. The primary focus of the event was helping the students explore and better understand our college values so that they can be more deeply embedded in their actions and behaviours.

Students were involved in a workshop activity where they were divided into groups moving through seven separate stations to discuss these values generating many excellent ideas into how our values of persistence, respect, community and success can be further modelled and celebrated within the College.

Students also enjoyed a highly entertaining talk by well-known comedy writer and director Declan Fay. Declan spoke to the students about his days at secondary school and how important it is to take advantage of all the opportunities school provides and always have the courage to pursue your dreams. Declan recounted how English was always his favourite subject at school and how he determined that he would pursue his passion as a future career. Today, Declan is a writer, author, podcaster, director and radio host and encouraged our students to have the courage to pursue their dreams and always grab hold of opportunities as they are presented in life.

A short affirmative story …

On Monday, 22 March three of our Year 10 students, Charlie Ward, Cooper Legge and Nick Long were walking home when they saw an elderly gentleman stumble and fall on the footpath. The boys checked on the gentleman and upon discovering he was in pain asked a local resident to ring for an ambulance. The three boys stayed with the gentleman until the ambulance arrived and he was assessed as having fractured his ribs in the fall. The local resident contacted the school to inform them of the boy’s actions and how impressed she was of them as community orientated young adults. The school is equally proud of our three Year 10 students for exemplifying our college value of community.

YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE WEEK

At present over 50 per cent of our Year 10 student cohort have organized a work placement for Work Experience Week from Monday, 10 May – Friday, 14 May. Students are encouraged to secure a job that aligns to their preferred career pathway so that it is a meaningful learning experience providing valuable insights into that chosen career. Parents and students are reminded that WEX forms must be returned to the Mrs Karen Talbot (Careers Coordinator) by Wednesday 31 March, 2021.
