Nihongo News

こんにちは!Hello!

Did you know that West Beach Primary School is 1 of 300 schools across Australia with access to the ELLA (Early Language Learning Australia) App?  As a school we were successful in applying to be part of the trial phase of this amazing new resource.

In 2019 we began using the apps with our Receptionstudents, and in 2021 all students from Reception to Year 2 will be given the opportunity to access these Japanese apps at WBPS. Please keep an eye out for a permission form coming home next week.

ELLA is a digital play-based program that includes a series of interactive applications (apps) that make language learning engaging and interesting for children in the early years of schooling.

The children enjoy exploring and interacting with the apps. I have loved hearing the students imitating and meaningfully using the Japanese language as prompted in each of the activities.

Unfortunately these apps are not available for download at home, however please feel free to check out the link below to support your child in their learning!

Science News

In Science this term, students are learning about Earth and Space. The JP students have been looking at pictures of day and night and making observations on what they notice. They then drew a picture to represent day and night on a sticky note to demonstrate their knowledge.

Room 11 and 14 have been learning about coastal erosion. They did a science experiment that demonstrates the effects that coastal erosion has on the landscape.

 Physical Education News

In the past 3 weeks, Year 3 to 7 students have been learning how to play Wall Tennis, a modified game similar to squash. We have learnt the rules and skills through playing games which has not only been enjoyable, but excellent to watch. Students took the responsibility of umpiring other games to enhance game understanding. Well done to the WBPS Wall Tennis super stars!

In Years Reception, 1 and 2 we have practiced our FUNdamental Movement Skills.  Students have skills have been developing their skills in play-based learning environments with a focus on running, hopping, jumping, dodging, throwing, catching, kicking, dribbling and even bat & ball control. Students are recognising the importance of being a team, playing by the rules and respecting others during PE.

Jump Rope for Heart

Dear Parents, This year our school is participating in Jump Rope for Heart – a fantastic physical activity and fundraising program by the Heart Foundation that has been running for over 36 years. Since Jump Rope for Heart started in 1983, schools like yours have raised more than $104 million for the Heart Foundation’s lifesaving work.

Jump Rope for Heart is a great way for your child to keep fit and learn new skills, but it also helps raise funds for vital heart research and education programs. To make fundraising fun and easy, you can create your own secure webpage at jumprope.org.au

Sign up to share your child’s progress and let the funds roll in. Your child can earn virtual badges along the way and your page will highlight the prizes up for grabs.

Sign up here today: www.jumprope.org.au/parents

Thank you for supporting the Jump Rope for Heart program!

Additional information will be sent out in the coming weeks…
