St Simon Ride2School Day

On Friday 19th March, our school is registered to take part in the National Ride2School Day. National Ride 2 School Day is the perfect opportunity to kick-start new healthy habits and promote the many benefits of active travel.

We wish to encourage all students and their families to leave the car at home and give riding, walking, scooting or skating to school a go over the next coming weeks.

Our school will be taking a survey to see how active we have been over the coming weeks.  See below for  results of the survey.

We hope all students will participate in keeping healthy, safe and active. Our school will be conducting some exciting activities to promote active travel to school. Stay tuned to the newsletter for more details.

See flyer below.

Our Year 6 students have currently been surveying the school last week. Our survey which is part of the Hands Up! Ride2School initiative measures the amount of active travel our school children participating in. This involves asking students whether they have been travelling to school by one of the four ways: walking to school, being dropped off by parents, by public transport or by riding, scooting or skating to school. The table showing our schools results below.

The active travel of students to school at St Simon the Apostle

From Wednesday 25th February to  Friday 27th February

Travel and dropped off by car904 students
Walk to school143 students
Bike ride, Scoot or Skate to school40 students
Take Public Transport to school eg. Bus7 students

From our results, 17% of our students at St Simon travelled by school by either walking, cycling, scooting or skating. We are hoping to reach our goal of 25% by Friday this week.  Well done to all those who have actively travelled to school this week!

Our school encourages all parents to think about ways our children can safely walk, ride, scoot or skate to school in a small group. Not only will this be better for the environment by reducing carbon emissions but it will foster healthy bodies and minds of our children for the future.
