Learning and Teaching News

Mrs Angela Simpson

Two weeks ago, I outlined many of the programs that we offer at MCA to help our young people with organisation, study skills, subject-specific tutorials and all manner of other types of assistance.  It is important to note that there are many other avenues of support for our boys and would like to draw your attention to one in particular today.

In the September school holidays, Griffith University run Boot Camps for Year 12 students.  And although this may seem like an age away, they book out very quickly, such is the quality of the service they offer.

The Academic Bootcamp courses are designed to assist students in improving their confidence and understanding in science and/or maths to achieve their full academic potential. They aim to improve confidence and understanding in senior science and maths subject areas, reducing anxiety around assessment and preparing students for future tertiary study. Subjects offered will be Maths Methods, Chemistry, Physics and Biology.

Expressions of interest for Year 12 students to attend the 2021 Academic Bootcamps are now open.

These boot camps give students a distinct advantage in progressing through their senior studies. They are designed and delivered by committed and enthusiastic lead teachers, who are specialists in the subject area and currently teaching these topics in schools. The Academic Bootcamps are specifically designed to assist students to:

  • revise and consolidate knowledge in their subjects
  • increase confidence in preparing for exams
  • provide invaluable tips on study skills and techniques specific to the subject
  • experience their subject matter from a different perspective
  • seek answers for specific queries and
  • give students an extra edge in upcoming exams and assessments.

Gold Coast campus:  20 September - 24 September 2021 (Monday to Friday)

Logan Campus: 27 September - 1 October 2021 (Monday to Friday)

COST: To be confirmed per course.

Please register your interest to attend via this link

It may also surprise you to know that many scholarship opportunities are available and conducting your research early around the criteria may help you identify goals to aim for to put yourselves in the best possible position to snare one post-school.

A great place to start to look for these is the ‘Scholarship’ tab on the Good Universities Guide.

Of particular interest to some of our boys will be scholarships for Rural, Regional and Creative Arts students. Please see details at the following link QTAC Scholarships.
