We had a fantastic day cheering our houses on at our school house sports last Friday. There were many smiles across the day with the icy-pole sales going strong. Thank you to all the staff and parents who helped to support the event.
It’s been great to meet families at the beginning of the day with most people looking forward to the day ahead. Many parents comment to me that their child shrugs their shoulders or gives minimal responses when they ask them how their day was. Please consider the language you use and be more specific.
For children all learning experiences are building off prior knowledge. Particularly when children find a learning area challenging, this question can give you the insight into how they are coping and you can have a reassuring conversation. Personal challenges are very powerful mind blocks so being aware and talking through concerns will really help your child know that you are supporting them. These conversations will plant the seeds in their minds that will add to their character strengths including resilience, working tough and working through. A problem shared is a problem halved!
Last week I started running LEGO social skills groups which will grow into lunchtime activities next term. LEGO club is very popular especially when the weather cools down and we are desperate to increase our LEGO resources. I would like to thank the family who donated the tub of LEGO blocks. If you know of anyone wishing to donate we are very interested to increase our resources. Please bring your donations to the office or speak to me if you have any questions. These clubs are a great way for children to make more friends as well as have fun at recess or lunch breaks.
We are in short supply of I Spy: A Book of Picture Riddles by Jean Marzollo. Due to COVID-19 Veronica and I are finding the books difficult to find at retail outlets. These books are in high demand and we would appreciate any of these second hand books.
Last night’s topic was on conflict and challenges for when parents don’t agree on parenting. Often disagreements and a lack of alignment with our partner will lead to a bumpy ride.
Dr. Justin had some great tools and advice to separate parenting from partnering.
If you are a new family at the school you may not be aware that the school has a free membership to the Happy Families website. The school will have free access until August and I would like to encourage everyone to join. The Happy Families membership gives you access to a number of resources which will help families, staff and students to thrive. Every member will receive a weekly "Lighten the Load" email, which includes a quick, easy to apply tip from Dr. Justin, as well as some updates about other features in the membership. There is a library of parenting resources which offers calm assurance, direction and solutions you can try out on your families.

We have been busy at playgroup, we’ve had Tilly the service dog come and visit and we’ve had green pancakes to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. Playgroup is so much fun, children meet new friends while they play and learn.
Woori Wallabies Playgroup is open to anyone in the community. We welcome all parents and carers to be a part of our group and we appreciate parents helping us run the program. We look forward to getting to know you and your children over the year so please don’t hesitate in speaking further with our Playgroup Team.
