Studio Art

An inspiring visit to the NGV Triennial

Despite COVID restrictions students from Year 11 Studio Art classes were able to go and visit the NGV International for the Triennial.

The Triennial showcases work by more than 100 artists, designers and collectives from more than 30 countries. Senior curator of the NGV Department of Contemporary Design and Architecture Ewan McEoin described the event as a “microcosm of the world today. “Unlike many triennials and biennials, it’s not created around a central theme. It’s more of a snapshot of practice,” he explains.

“(In this edition), we’re seeing very strong messages around climate change, as well as identity politics and racial issues, but also the emergence of artificial intelligence and how technology will shape the future of our lives for the better or possibly worse.”

Students were able to view the exhibition which is scattered all around the NGV and consider their favourite artist to reflect and respond upon their practice.

Students were also guided through an exhibition at ACCA gallery nearby where as a group they were able to consider the works in relation to Art Industry.

It was wonderful to get out and about again and be so inspired by the amazing works created for both shows.
