VCAL Work Placements

Help wanted: VCAL students need work placements!

Hello everyone, my name is Leo and I'm from the VCAL class. Please keep reading because I have an important message to spread and you guys who might help the Intermediate and Senior VCAL class! In the VCAL program, we are required to get a structured work placement so we can get work experience on Thursdays or Wednesdays, but we have to find a placement that is in the industry of our VET subject. Some of us students are having trouble trying to find work since it's hard to get a job in our related industries, for example, my VET is Screen and Media and I have been having trouble looking which is why we are asking for your help. Hopefully, someone out there reading this article will know someone or is working in one of these industries and will be able to help us.

Here is a list of all our student's courses:

  • Hospitality
  • Automotive
  • Community Services
  • Music Sound Production
  • Carpentry
  • Screen and Media
  • Electrical
  • Communications
  • Sport and Recreation
  • Beauty Industry
  • Visual Arts
  • Youth Work
  • Animal Studies.

If you are someone who works in one of these industries or at least knows someone then please reach out to us. The reason why this is so important to us is that it helps us pass VCAL without completing 80 hours of work experience within one of our chosen industries. The minimum pay is only $5 a day unless you're willing to pay more otherwise $5 is perfect since all we need is the work experience.

Now some of you might be wondering… what is VCAL? Well, if you don't know let me explain what this program is, when you are able to do it and why it exists. First of all, VCAL stands for Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning and is a program that runs in years 11 and 12, it's another pathway option to choose other than VCE. The program is suitable for people who prefer more hands-on practical work and there are no exams at the end of it, unlike VCE. If you're not in year 11 or above yet now is a good chance to start thinking and learning about the differences so you can choose the right path that fits you best.
