TERM 2 SPORT REPORT

Once again, Term 2 has been a very successful time in the sports department at Mount Eliza Secondary College. The term began with our own Athletics carnival on the second day back of the term. The event could not have taken place without the huge amount of support and donated time that we received from Simon Rickard (a father from our school) and Todd Martin, two very passionate members of Mornington Athletics Club. The day had huge participation from all students thanks to the introduction of the novelty events, and the carnival style event made it a relaxed and enjoyable day for all. Thanks to the high participation at our school carnival we were proud to enter a huge team into the District Athletics Championships in week 2 at Ballam Park. All our students ran, jumped and threw with all their might, and a number of students will continue to represent our school at the Regional Athletics on the 11th of October in term 4 later this year.

Regional Athletics Team Members: Abbey Bradey, Tristian Potter, Sam Fennell, Alex Hutchison, Nathan Mann, Rupert Anastasio, Jekab Kesners, Harry Maxwell, Nathan Acheson.

A couple of weeks later was the School Cross Country Carnival which included the Senior students as a new addition this year. Thanks to the increase in participation and effort at our house carnival we were able to enter a 70 student strong team into the SSV Southern District Cross Country Championships a couple of weeks later. Mount Eliza managed to come third overall which was a direct result of the increased in depth of participation and effort from students across the school. It was a proud day for Mr Prior and myself! On an individual level, 15 students can be congratulated on making it through to the Regional Cross Country Championships on Monday 18th June. An extra special congratulations to Abbey Bradey who took an early lead and won the 15 year old girls event on the day.

Regional Cross Country Team Members: Rupert Anastasio, Cody Bardolph, Jacob Bigg, Abbey Bradey, Amelia Cunnington, Imogen Cunnington, Amelia Gill, Oliver Heavey, Nathan Mann, Keely McKenzie, Luke Shaw, Tyler Spence, Jessica Ward, Katrina Ward and Andrew Wright.

We have had many further successes across the school in sport. There was senior sport where we were able to send out teams in hockey, soccer, basketball, badminton with netball and AFL to come in the next few weeks. Congratulations to the Senior Girls Hockey team who made it through to the next round without a goalie and with only 8 players.
