200 Word English Panel

As Year 12 students come increasing closer to their end-of-year exams, the Year 12 English teachers held a Comparative Analysis Panel to prepare students and provide them with a deeper, and more insightful understanding of ‘The Crucible’ by Arthur Miller and ‘Year of Wonders’ by Geraldine Brooks. The panel, consisting of Mr. Mahalingam, Mr. Woon, Dr. Schroor and Ms. Mackin, demonstrated that through extensive discussion, a clear and comprehensible grasp of the texts can be made. The students who attended the panel, benefited from discussing the various comparison points of the two texts and linking it to questions.

Organised by Emma Regester and Jordan Van Rhyn, the panel answered questions that aimed to delve into the intricacies of the texts so that, come exam time, students are prepared to present a sophisticated comparison that explore the complexities of the texts. The teachers sought to ensure that students considered the similarities, accounted for the differences and explained why they occurred by presenting examples within the texts and examining their significance. Throughout the discussions, students were exposed to new ideas and interpretations of Miller’s play and Brooks’ novel so that they may be better prepared for their upcoming exam.
