Japan Tour 2018
こんにちは! On the 12 September, 14 Nossal students, along with Mr Delaney and Mrs Desaulniers, departed from Melbourne Airport for Japan. First, we stayed in Shinjuku of Tokyo city and explored the local area, Shibuya (famous for its extremely busy scramble crossing), Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, Yoyogi Park, Asakusa and Akihabara (a must for anime lovers).
After getting a feel for Japan, we went to meet our host families. At first we were very nervous but as soon as we met them, we felt warm and comfortable; and to us they became like family. We learnt about how school runs in Japan and began to understand more about Japanese culture and life.
After a week with our host families, we went to Kyoto – which was very traditional compared to Tokyo, the modern and technologically-advanced capital. In Kyoto, we first attended a Kaiseki dinner with a Maiko performance (Maiko: Geisha in training). We also visited Fushimi-Inari Taisha Shrine, Arashiyama Bamboo Forest and Katsura River and went to Nara, where we saw deer that bowed down to us; and went to Otowa waterfall, where we chose between love, wealth and success.
Following that, we visited Kinkakuji temple. Next, in Himeji, we went to an arcade centre as well as Himeji Castle, the main attraction of the city. Afterwards, we visited Hiroshima, where we paid our respects to the victims of the atomic bombing at Peace Park. Next, we went to Miyajima Island with its beautiful views and large Torii gate. The day after, we visited Osaka for its bustling shops and unique food.
Unfortunately, this is where our trip ended, yet no one could disagree that it had been wonderful and had gone by too quickly!

Attention students of French! Host families wanted in 2019
Students from our Sister School in Lannion, France “ Lycée Félix Le Dantec”, will be visiting Nossal High school early in 2019. Twenty-one students and two staff are keen to visit our school, meet our students and see the sites of Melbourne.
The dates of the tour are Friday 22 February to Friday 8 March 2019. If you would like to host a student or you would like more information, please contact Mrs Yvonne Sly at Nossal High school. This will be a wonderful opportunity for our French students to communicate with native speakers of their own age as well as share the Australian culture with our overseas friends. A program of events will be available once students have been billeted with a family. An expression of Interest application form will be available to students on Teams. This should be returned to Mrs Sly by Friday 16 November 2018.
