VCE and VCAL Information Evenings

The later Years Team recently hosted the VCE and VCAL Information Evenings. The evenings provided families with an opportunity to meet with some of the Year 11 and 12 teachers and the Later Years Team. The VCE presentations focused on enabling parents and students to reflect on the best ways to approach study in their final year of school and in preparation for their exams, whilst the VCAL Information Evening was an opportunity for parents to build their understanding of the sometimes complex VCAL program.

A highlight of the evenings were the keynote speakers from Elevate Education and Australian Apprenticeship Support.

Elevate Education are experts in providing study skills support to students particularly in the areas of time management and motivation. The College will be inviting Elevate Education back to the College for a number of workshops with Later Years students throughout the year. Year 12 VCE parents are encourage to access Compass for the event details.

Year 10 Mock Interviews – Thursday 19th March

On Thursday 19th March, all year 10 students will be participating in the Mock Interview program.

As part of the Year 10 Catalyst program this term, students will be preparing for the interview by developing the skills to create a resume and cover letter and have participated in a presentation by expert interview skills coach James Lynch.  Students will also be given information about what clothes are suitable to wear to an interview.

Students have been provided with a range of entry-level and experienced positions for which they can ‘apply’.  They have been instructed to choose one position to apply for on the day of the interview, and to bring with them their resume and cover letter suitably adapted for that particular position.

Students will be given a specific interview time in Home Group next week. On the day, students will need to report to the Senior Centre 15 minutes prior to their interview time, and let the staff member on the reception desk know they have arrived.  After their interview, they will complete a reflection of their interview, as well as receiving feedback from the guest interviewers.  Students can leave school after their interview process is completed.  There are no formal classes on this day, except for early start and peer support.

Parents are also invited to volunteer to be guest interviewers on the day. Volunteers will work as part of a team of two with a staff member and/or member of the local community.  Interview questions, student feedback forms, morning tea and lunch provided.

Volunteers who are Year 10 parents are exempt from providing a Working With Children’s Check. All other volunteers must provide a copy of a current Working With Children’s Check on the day. WWC are available free of charge for volunteers at http://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/home/.
