Boarding

The first term of 2019 at the Boarding House has been full of excitement, laughter and fun across the board. We have had a lot of new brilliant changes from getting the new Year 12 Wings to a new Boarding Director; it has been a term to remember. Not only has the food improved from last year, but the overall living experience has been uplifted due to refreshing changes that have been brought in.
This term we congratulated so many amazing cricketers, rowers, tennis players and equestrians who have achieved not only personal bests but have won premierships, finals and events. Sport isn’t the only activity on the agenda, trips to Melbourne, pizza and movie nights, Valentine’s day dinner and of course the Girls Can week and the Orientation Games have all been part of the life of a boarder this term. These activities and events have included laughter, fun, team-work and or support of every boarder, which is what we are all about.
It is important to recognise these changes would not have been suggested or successful without the help of each and every boarder within the Macdonald and Spiers Houses. It was during the weekly house meetings, held on Wednesday nights whilst being served super suppers of toasties, cakes, sushi, ice cream and hot cross buns, that the boarders have come together to suggest changes or improvements.
We also hosted the ‘Girl Can’ movement which brought the Macdonald House alive with many activities for our amazing girls including plenty of art and yoga and of course the ongoing support that every young woman can achieve anything they put their mind to. As the Macdonald House captain and knowing all of the girls, I know for a fact that not only have the girls already achieved ground breaking goals, but they will achieve more throughout their life as well, potential is everywhere!
As the House captains we would also like to thank Dr Andrew Bradbeer for his attendance and presentation at our formal dinner. Dr Bradbeer provided knowledgeable insight into the importance and depth sleep holds for our wellbeing. Not only are more of these formal dinners planned for next term but we also have so many more exciting things coming in Term 2 such as:
- Christmas in July
- Cinema nights
- Boarding House jumpers
- Sporting trips such as AFL, Basketball and trips to Melbourne
- Banquet dinners
- A new lunch buffet
And of course, the most important week of the year… National Boarders Week, this is in the 3rd week of next term and there are plenty of activities planned for this special week which celebrates how important boarders are, nationwide.
Day students, are you jealous?
We hope to see all the boarders returning with huge smiles on their faces, prepared for the term ahead. We wish everyone a safe and humble Easter spent with their families and friends.
It has been such a big term for everyone from boarders, to staff, so enjoy your holidays and we certainly look forward to welcoming you all back on Sunday the 28th of April.
