On Monday 35 Art, Design, Studio Arts and Visual Communication Design from Years 10, 11 and 12, made the trip to Melbourne to visit multiple exhibitions. We began the day at the NGV International where we toured the Escher X Nendo Exhibition. This is a groundbreaking exhibition that showcases the work of M.C. Escher – The Master of Optical Illusion - and the famous Japanese Design company, Nendo.
The object was to merge the world of design and art and immerse the viewer in the whole gallery experience. Each aspect of Escher’s art was represented by a different gallery space and allowed the students to see a contemporary interpretation of design.
We then went to Federation square where students viewed folios and the Top Arts Exhibition. This allowed students to look closely at the developmental work that supported the best student work of 2018. Looking through the exhibition after
looking at the folios allowed students to see the final artworks and how they were displayed.
Top Designs at the Melbourne Museum allowed students of design to look closely at the Design Process and Visual Communication and see first hand how it was applied to a range of media.
It was a long day but well worth the early start. When students engage in the art experience and gain ideas and inspiration from what they see it can only enrich their own art making.
