Child Safety Standards

At Greater Shepparton Secondary College we hold the care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people as a central and fundamental responsibility of our school.

Our commitment is acknowledged in our Child Safe Standards Policy which states:

Greater Shepparton Secondary College has zero tolerance for child abuse and is committed to providing a child safe environment where children and young people are safe and feel safe.

At GSSC we do this by working on the following child safety standards as set out by the Department of Education and Training (DET). The seven Child Safe Standards are:

  1. Strategies to embed a culture of organisational culture of child safety
  2. A child safety policy or statement of commitment to child safety
  3. Child safety code of conduct
  4. Staff selection checklist
  5. Procedures for responding to and reporting allegations of suspected child abuse
  6. Child safety risk management strategies
  7. Strategies to promote child empowerment and participation

During the year will we provide more information about each of these standards and also the work we do to ensure we can live up to our commitment of child safety.
