Community Access returns

Students in the Support Unit were happy to return to community access at Stockland Mall, Wetherill Park. They wore their masks and kept their distance from the other people in the shopping centre.  Students were able to make purchases for their families and look at the latest DVD’s, toys and books.

Innov8

Students from the Special Education Unit participated in an eight-week program called Get ready to Innov8. The program, delivered by Northcott, focussed on preparing students for post-school opportunities.  Innov8 covered various topics including social and personal confidence, finding strength and personal goals, planning and organising, telephone conversations, problem-solving, conflict resolution, communication, connecting and working in teams, and interview skills.  The program was very well presented, as well as being very beneficial for our students.

Food Technology

This semester the students in the Support Unit have been learning about International foods and dishes from their cultural backgrounds. The students chose a recipe from their culture, or a dish they love and prepared and created it in their Food Technology classes. The students were very proud to explore their different cultures and show the staff and students their delicious dishes they’d created! Some of the dishes were Placki Ziemniaczane (Polish potato pancakes), Pad Thai, Falafel, Lasagna, Zarda (Pakistani Sweet Rice), Lumpia (Filipino Spring Rolls), Johnny cakes, coconut bread, Arouk, lamingtons, meat pies, pho, sushi and and nachos.

Year 10 Italian and Support Unit Collaboration

The Support Unit were very lucky to have students from Mrs Koloveros’ Year 10 Italian class teach some wonderful Italian lessons to the students in the Support Unit who are also learning Italian. They leant how to make gelato, leant and sang songs about the colours in Italian, Italian numbers, soccer skills and set up a shop with Italian products that the students could practice how to ask for items in Italian. It was wonderful for all the students involved.
