Concert Band Roadshow

Every year, the College Concert Band goes out to a primary school to perform pieces that the ensemble has worked hard on throughout the school year. On Monday, 7 December, we stopped first at Carousel for some lunch of our choosing, then headed over to Wilson Primary School, performing Three Faces of Kilimanjaro, Selections from West Side Story, Sesame Street Theme, Twist and Shout, My Heart Will Go On and Christmas Swings. My favourite piece was My Heart Will Go On from the Titanic soundtrack. We were very thankful for them allowing us to play there as we had trouble locking in a school due to 2020 being a very unique year. As an ex-student of Wilson PS, I nervously looked on as my old Vice Principal, Mr Bond, introduced us to the whole school where I recognised many students, teachers and friends I grew up with. I couldn’t stop smiling – it was a great experience! We could tell the kids and teachers were enjoying the show as they were all dancing and happily singing along to the familiar Christmas songs. After we had finished and we were packing up, some of my previous teachers, friends and family greeted us and said what a wonderful show we performed and that we should definitely come back again next year!

St Joseph’s School - Year 5 Band Program

This year, the Year 5 students from St Joseph’s School have been involved in an exciting music program in which they learnt a wind instrument (trumpet, trombone, flute, clarinet or saxophone) of their choosing. St Norbert College has been working closely with St Joseph’s School in facilitating this program, providing the students with instrumental lessons and band instruction.

On the evening of Monday, 7 December, a concert took place in the Fr Peter O’Reilly Centre for parents and families of the students in celebration of their hard work during the year. It was an incredible showcase of the progress that all of the students made in their musical learning and the show was enjoyed greatly by both the audience, staff and the students themselves. The following day, the Year 5s performed for the final time for their peers in the ORC accompanied by the St Norbert College String Ensemble who also performed for the students.

Thank you very much to Mr John Rose, Principal of St Joseph’s School, as well as Ms Mary Coates, Assistant Principal, and all of the teachers for their support of the program. Thank you also to the St Norbert College instrumental tutors: Mr Peter Chan, Miss Caitlin Burke and Miss Rachel Hicks for their tireless work with the students and to Miss Kim Tran and Mrs Katherine Freind for their help throughout the year. It was a great success and we look forward to working closely with St Joseph’s School’s incoming Year 5s next year!
