Important Dates for 2021

School resumes in the first week of February. Please download or save the following attachment for important dates throughout the coming year:

Uniform and Personal Presentation

Students commence Term 1 in FULL SUMMER UNIFORM. As student have growth spurts during the holidays please check uniforms in advance to ensure any items needing to be replaced are done so before school commences. Uniform Shop holiday opening times are published at the end of the newsletter and also on the College website.

Any changes to hair, piercings and nails will need to be rectified before returning to school. The Personal Presentation Policy has been updated and will apply from the commencement of 2021. The following amendments need to be considered:

Number 1 haircuts are not permitted. Lines, patterns and tracks are not permitted. Contrasting lengths should be blended.
Eyelash enhancements and eyebrow tinting are not permitted.

Year 12 Results

Results will be available on 20 December.

Year 11, 2021

Any students wishing to make subject changes, can do so after 21 January by making an appointment with me. Please call Mrs Tracey Burgoyne on 9350 5433 or via email tburgoyne@norbert.wa.edu.au.

Changes can only be made if MERs have been met, changes fit the gird and there is room in the class.

Year 7, 2021

A reminder to families to organise uniforms, purchase and image laptops before the commencement of the school year.

This includes booking Macbook Student/Parent Sessions on Wednesday 20 or Thursday 21 January. Please refer to information from the Information Night in September.

Semester Two Reports

Students in Year 10 and Year 11 have already been given access to their Semester Two reports. Students in the remaining years will be provided their reports by mid-next week. The report provides students and parents information about their subject achievement, academic progress, learning behaviours and provides an understanding of their achievement in relation to the remainder of their year group both at school and across the state. State grades are awarded in subjects that are run in ability streamed classes. As Year 7 classes are not streamed, there are no state grades awarded as the College grade is the state grade.

Whilst there are no Parent/Student/Teacher interviews linked with these reports, they still provide an excellent opportunity for students to reflect on the academic progress that they have made this year and to identify areas to focus on for next year. Ideally, this would involve a discussion between students and their parents when they receive their report which could then be revisited immediately before the start of the 2021 academic year. We all like to set New Year resolutions around this time and so reflecting on the report give students the opportunity to set academic resolutions for the new school year.

Booklists and Class Allocation

In the coming days, all students will be sent a copy of their class allocation for 2021. The decision to place students in the different ability streamed classes is done in consultation with the subject teachers and the Head of Learning Area. The allocation of elective subjects, however, is based upon the preferences that the students submitted through SSO in Term Three. Should any student in Years 8-10 wish to select a different elective, they will have the opportunity to do so at the start of the new school year. Changes, however, will only be permitted based on the class numbers and whether the request fits the existing timetable.

The 2021 Booklists are available to download on the College website. You can also access the 2021 Booklists either through the ‘Documents’ section in SEQTA. Those orders lodged by Friday, 18 December will not be charged for delivery.

When the texts and supplies arrive for the new school year there is always a mixture of emotions amongst students. For some, it is a reminder that the holidays are winding up and that school will start again soon. For others, there is a sense of excitement of returning to school to continue their learning journey alongside their friends. Either way, it is a good practice for students and parents to sit down together and look through the books and explore the topics and concepts that lie ahead. Studies have shown that this simple activity can have a positive impact on both the student’s learning and any lingering nervousness they may have for the coming school year.

Year 9 Careers Education

Over the last week, Year 9 students have spent time looking into the future with the goal of kick-starting their planning towards achieving their ‘dream job’ in the years to come. Last Friday, students were given the opportunity to either visit either the Construction Futures Centre for a hands-on trade information session or to attend Curtin University to learn more about the various tertiary courses that Curtin University offers. The response form the students was overwhelmingly positive with many students rating it 5/5 in their feedback. Then this week, Year 9 students took part in the Game Changers Career Education program that promotes big thinking, positive self-reflection and goal setting as the starting point for their career planning. With the holidays approaching, all Year 9 students are encouraged to think about what they want to achieve next year and beyond with the intention of establishing clear academic goals that they can start working towards from the beginning of Year 10.
