Assessment of Languages Competence (ALC) – Italian

Prior to exams, our Year Nine Italian students attempted the Italian Certificate 1 - Listening and Reading skills tests with some great results. I hope they found completing these beneficial for their exams.

Well done to the students listed below who received a Distinction:

  • Selena Barbato (Reading)
  • Darcy Eyre (Reading)
  • Irene Joseph (Reading)
  • Isabelle Peters (Reading)
  • Shelley Romano (Reading)
  • Isabella Giuffre (Listening & Reading)
  • Edweena Liju (Listening)

Congratulations to Kym Dela Cruz and Sophie Griffiths who received a High Distinction in the Listening Test. Awesome effort!

Have Sum Fun Online

Both Year Nine Maths Extension classes participated in a three-week online quiz, competing in teams against each other and other WA schools. The quiz questions were math-based problem-solving questions, some more challenging than others. The students were competitive and showed a determination to succeed.

Our top-ranking team was SNC 3 on 237 points. Well done to Theodore Ciungwanara, Ashley Mascarenhas, Anthony Paradiso and Sumail Sidhu.

Integrated Challenge Project

Our Academic Excellence students worked in their Tournament of Minds teams on their school-based project, The Integrated Challenge Project. The teams uncovered existing challenges at St Norbert College and found possible solutions for them. Their presentations were informative, showing both initiative and creativity.

Two teams looked to improve litter in the College. One team produced an awesome multimedia 3-D animation of their new-look bin which contained a magnet to attract the metallic objects thrown into the bin. This allowed for separation of metal and non-metal rubbish. The other team named their special bin, Da Binchi. Their bin had one entry point but still managed to separate the rubbish to allow for maximum recycling. The bin also catered for fun by having a basketball hoop above its entry. They even made a mini prototype.

The third team hoped to improve student mental health and inclusivity by producing a friendship bench in the younger year groups eating areas. They researched cost effective methods to be able to introduce this at the College and the health benefits for students.

All teams had fantastic ideas but there could only be one winner, and that winner was Da Binchi! Each student in the winning team received a canteen voucher to enjoy.

I would like to thank the students of the Academic Excellence Program for their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn. I hope to see you, and many more students, participating in the program in 2021.
