Assistant Principal's Report

Welcome Back!

A big huge welcome back to all of our FPS community! I hope you all had a chance to switch off and spend quality time with your friends and family. I speak for all of our staff here when I say that we are so excited to be back and ready to get into the swing of things.

Big Moves throughout the School

In the final week of 2020 our staff were preparing for big moves throughout the school. The demolition of the Foundation building meant that the room needed to be emptied by the end of term with Foundation resources and furniture moved into their new spaces off the Old Hall. The Year 3 and 4 classes were preparing to move to the double storey building opposite the gym, and the Year 5 and 6 classes were preparing to move to the new campus across the road. Most of this movement occurred during the holidays so as not to disrupt the students' last few weeks of term four.

I would like to acknowledge how flexible and supportive staff were during this time of change. Most of our classroom teachers not only moved classrooms, but moved into different buildings and spent time during the holidays preparing and setting up their new rooms. There was a lot of furniture movement across the school as well as new furniture delivered and set up at the Wingrove Street Campus. During our curriculum days last week, staff completed setting up their spaces and planned for term one in their teams, developing Literacy, Numeracy and Inquiry units of work as well as the start-up program which focuses on revisiting the school vision, values and expectations as well as different routines and structures in each year level.

Starting 2021

So, as you can imagine, there has been a lot going on around school during the holidays and a lot still happening – you would have noticed the old Foundation building is now demolished and the site is being prepared for landscaping. Many students have been interested in watching the machine remove the rubble and sort it into various piles to take away.

Our Library is looking amazing as usual and Paula is ready to support the classes as they begin their visits to the space. There have been some additions to the Library with some new shelving and beautiful place cards to highlight popular authors around the library which will make looking for that special book much easier!

Our new Foundation students have made a wonderful transition to school. It is so lovely to see them spread out in their new space and every time I walk through their rooms I am always greeted with many smiling faces and excited stories about what they are learning.

And last but not least our Year 5 and 6 students began 2021 in their new classrooms at Wingrove Street Campus. The rain did not dampen the excitement as students and families entered the gates for the first time last Friday. There was a fantastic buzz as everyone arrived and it didn’t take long for the students to make themselves at home with the new spaces and furniture. Another exciting event last Friday was the delivery of the Year 6 jumpers and t-shirts – they look amazing!
