Principal's Report

A First Day to Remember!

The first day of school is always one to remember. This was certainly the case on Friday as we were welcomed back to school with over 40mm of rain! However, that wasn’t going to deter us from having a fantastic day. In every pocket of the school there was something different and exciting.

Foundation

We welcome to FPS to our Foundation students (all 101 of them) and their families. What a fantastic start to school life you have had. All five classes were happy, settled and enjoying themselves. Relationships with future ‘friends for life’ were made, and students had many positive stories to share with their parents.

Year 1 & Year 2

As of last Friday, it was the first day for FPS to have straight grades throughout the school. This now means that Year 1 students are located in the double-storey portable and Year 2 students are in the single-storey portables. When I visited their classrooms, it was as though they had never been away, picking up beautifully from where they left off last year. They had the added bonus of having the best view in the house for the clearing of the demolished Foundation building.

Year 3 & Year 4

There was lots of excitement in the Fairfield Rd Building as Year 3 and Year 4 students familiarised themselves with their new classrooms. Year 4 enjoyed the first floor views towards the city, whilst Year 3 students enjoyed the tiered seating on the ground floor. After two years of the building hosting Year 5/6 students, it may take a little time to get used to seeing younger faces in these rooms, however I am sure that they will continue to enjoy it as much as they did on their first day.

Year 5 & Year 6

There was a spontaneous roar of excitement as students entered the Wingrove St Campus (WSC) for the first time. After 10 months of construction, the wait was over and students had a great first day in the building. Their highlights included the breakout spaces, the furniture, the motorised projector screen and the design of the building. To top the day off, our Year 6 students were given their Year 6 hoodies and t-shirts.

Fence Upgrade

Following last year’s fence upgrades on the Wingrove St side of the oval, these holidays stage two of the project was completed – the Langridge St side of the oval has new fencing too. The new fencing provides a cohesive look and includes a driveway, providing emergency vehicle access to the eastern side of the campus. Many thanks to Damian Cullen, a parent at the school, who has used his time and expertise to coordinate these works.

This grounds upgrade has been funded by the parent contributions to our Building Fund – thank you for these valuable contributions.

Assembly

Hopefully the weather is kind to us this Friday 5 February, as we plan to host our Welcome Assembly at 3pm on the netball court. If inclement weather prevails, we will reschedule the assembly to Monday 8 February, at 9am. We hope that you can join us.

You’re invited – WSC Open Afternoon

Our school community is invited to walk through the new Wingrove St Campus after school on Thursday 4 February, from 3:40 – 4:10pm. We look forward to seeing you there.
