Principal's Report

The end of 2020

Without wanting to sound repetitive, it has been a year for the record books! 2020 has thrown more challenges our way than any other in living memory.

I am so proud of the way that the Marlborough community came together, albeit from a distance, to navigate our way through Remote Learning (both versions) and come out the other side to resume back at school this Term.

To our students - WELL DONE! You have amazed us all in how you have approached your learning in 2020 and bounced back to 'normal' this Term. To our Parents - THANK YOU! for the work that you put into your child's learning this year. You were able to support your children through their learning for one-third of the school year. To our staff - AMAZING! This year more than any I have been in awe of your dedication, determination and passion for the work that you do. Remote Learning would not have been the success that it was without the work that you put into it.

As I have mentioned previously we have three Marlborough staff moving on at the end of this year. Megan Richter and Amanda Rethus are both moving to Knox Park Primary and Dorothy Dullege is retiring at the end of this year. I would like to thank Megan, Amanda and Dorothy for their work at Marlborough over the years as their contribution to the growth and development of the students at Marlborough has been outstanding.

Next year we have three new staff joining us at Marlborough. Mandy Boulton and Anies Davidson as classroom teachers and a new Chaplain who we hope to appoint over the Summer break.

Graduation

A massive congratulations to our Year 6 students who this week have completed their Primary Schooling. Monday night was a beautiful night with a change of venue and approach to the event. Thank you to all of the families involved in putting together what was one of the best Graduations that I have had the privilege to attend.  While Covid forced some of the changes we have decided that we will keep quite a number of the new elements to our Graduation into the future.

To our Year 6 students, as I said on the night, 'You've got this'.

End of the School Year

Tomorrow is the end of the school year for all students and staff. School will be finishing at 1:30 pm with the final assembly starting at 1 pm. Usually, we invite all families to our final assembly, however, due to Covid restrictions we are only able to have our Year 6 families present this year.

Other families may wish to be on-site, however, we would ask that you are not on the concrete area where we hold the assembly. You might choose to be on the grassed area near the playgrounds as you would then still be able to listen to the assembly.

Building Works

Over the school break, our toilet renovations will begin (and hopefully finish). If you are out and about over the break and see work vans on-site, please do not be concerned. We should also see things happening in the first half of next year with our Sensory Garden and also playground upgrades. All of these works have been delayed several times this year due to Covid, and we are hoping that 2021 will be the year of building at Marlborough.

Summer Holidays

I would finally like to wish each of our families a very safe Summer break and enjoy whatever celebrations you may be having. Please stay safe on the roads and by the water as we want to see all returning happy and healthy in 2021.

Thank you again for the year that 2020 has been and I look forward to next year!
